I love you with so much of my heart that none is left to protest ❤️
Meet the Company of
#MuchAdoAboutNothing
, playing in the Globe Theatre from 25 April:
Our new play I, Joan shows Joan as a legendary leader who uses the pronouns ‘they/them’. We are not the first to present Joan in this way, and we will not be the last. We can't wait to share this production with everyone and discover this cultural icon.
Nearly 300 years ago, the first Black performer to play Juliet was Rachael Baptiste, an Irishwoman also hugely successful as a singer.
She performed in Lancashire in the mid-1700s.
Hi, we’re Shakespeare's Globe 👋
You might know us from our greatest hits, including...
No, we’re not
@TheRSC
.
Yes, the plays happen even if it rains.
Standing tickets really are £5, and yes you actually have to stand.
and no, Shakespeare didn’t perform here, we opened in 1997.

Deleting my dating apps because I want to meet someone the old fashioned way (being shipwrecked in a strange land, disguising myself as my twin brother, becoming a page for the Duke, and being entangled in a love triangle where I am irresistible AF)

Yesterday, this happened.
Over 250 magnificent Black womxn working in theatre came together on our stage ✨

Today we welcome the
#RichardII
team. It's always a pleasure welcoming a new team to the Globe but today it's historic as they are the first ever company of women of colour to present a Shakespeare play on a major UK stage.
Meet them here 👇
Wishing our Royal Patron, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, a very Happy 99th Birthday today! 🎂🥳
In honour of the day, here's some photographs of Prince Philip from our archives.
Things we've learned since 29 June 1613.
– Using cannons to create special effects is a no-go
– A thatched timber theatre is v. flammable
– A tiled roof may be a more sensible option for theatre 2.0
– If your breeches catch fire, they can be extinguished with a bottle of ale
It is my birth-day. Today we wish the man himself a very Happy Birthday. How would you help Shakespeare celebrate? Bear in mind he would be 454 years old, not that we think that would stop him having a good time.

Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken
It is the star to every wandering bark
#Sonnet16
Wishing all marking
#Pride
a happy and hopeful day.

Our wigs department just sent the email “having a clear out today, come help yourselves”. And now everyone in the Shakespeare’s Globe office is like...
"There is not one Juliet. There never has been"
Dr Sophie Duncan (

THREAD 🧵
Listen to every woman with you now. Listen when I say to you to take the fire as your own. That anger that you feel it is yours and you can use it. If they try to burn you, may your fire be stronger than theirs so you can burn the whole fucking house down. Don’t stop now 🔥💙
By age 30 you should have written at least six plays, a handful of sonnets, two narrative verse poems, become a partner in a theatre, and had a mysterious disappearance where no one can account for your actions for roughly seven years.
STOP talking trash about

Orlando is POETIC
Hal is BRAVE
Brutus is AN HONOURABLE MAN
Benedict is WITTY

Romeo is PASSIONATE
The spring, the summer,
The childing autumn, angry winter, change
Their wonted liveries, and the mazèd world

We are delighted to announce that Stella Kanu will be the next Chief Executive of Shakespeare’s Globe!
With over 30 years of experience working in the theatre, festival, and cultural sectors, Stella will join us in Autumn 2023:
We’re deeply saddened to hear of the great Christopher Plummer's passing. An early supporter of Sam Wanamaker, and a Patron of our US & Canadian Globe centres, he illuminated the world's understanding of Shakespeare through his many memorable performances. He will be truly missed
This is my birth-day; as this very day
Was [William Shakespeare] born.

Today we are remembering our founder, Sam Wanamaker, who died on this day in 1993. Sadly Sam did not see the Globe Theatre completed. Please join us in raising a toast to this visionary man 🍷

We are deeply saddened to hear that HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh has passed away. Prince Philip served as our Patron for over 40 years. His support for our founder Sam Wanamaker was integral to building the Globe Theatre and later, opening the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.
"We welcome this significant investment from the Government in our world-leading theatres and cultural institutions. As an independent charity, the Globe needs support throughout this difficult time and will now have the opportunity to plan to reopen fully by early 2021." [1/2]

We wholeheartedly disagree with The Telegraph’s article and with the photograph of Nadia from our 2018 production of Hamlet being used to support it.
We have requested this photograph be removed from the article, which has now been actioned.
Our theatres have been kept safe during our closure by members of our wonderful Globe family, but today I stepped foot in our wooden O for the first time since March. It was like coming home ⭕
