#OnThisDay 1967 the Survey ship HMS DAMPIER returned to @DockyardChatham under sail. Whilst returning to UK after nearly 20 years in Singapore, she lost her starboard shaft off Africa and with 3000 miles to run decided to rig sails to gain an extra 1/2 Knot to get home for Xmas.

#OnThisDay 1941 Lt Cdr Malcolm Wanklyn awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry during a daring attack on an Italian convoy.Wanklyn was the Allies most successful submarine commander of #WW2 by tonnage sunk, all the more remarkable a feat as his sub HMS UPHOLDER was lost in 1942

USS Nimitz entered her home port of Puget Sound for the final time yesterday. After 50 years service she will now decommission. Incredible to think when she commissioned in 1975 HMS Ark Royal was still in service.

RN Phot Throwback | Op Nickleby - Alan Ferguson โThe intelligence gathering role is one I was involved in for a number of years. We deployed a number of photographers on a RN warship and Royal Fleet Auxiliary to cover the annual Soviet Union naval exercises in the Barents.

The Voith-Schneider Propeller is a vertical-axis marine drive whose spinning blades change pitch continuously, letting a ship generate instant thrust in any direction, like a helicopter rotor underwater. Super-maneuverable, perfect for tugs and ferries.
