I volunteer to work the Easter ER shift so my colleagues who celebrate the holiday can have time off with their family.
It also is a good reason to wear my purple sparkle lab coat :)

Trying to get into the hospital for an ER shift by following a snow plow. End up passing a sled being pulled by a horse & a mule.

Finished cleaning out my “little” brother’s home today. Ugly man tears. I hope sharing my grief openly can help others.

My “little” brother Scott has died suddenly. He was a gentle giant. Our families’ hearts are broken. He was loved, he is loved and he will always be loved. Call your siblings today. Miss you Moose.
Today we need to say goodbye to our beloved Moxie.
Dogs can be such an important part of a family. She has been key factor in my

2020 has been a very bad year.
Please send dog pictures to help me get through today.
To my EM family:
Many of us will get sick.
Some of us may die.
It is an honour to stand beside you during this

pandemic.
You are all heroes.
I love you

Another ER doc response to the question…how are things in the ER these days?
As my friend
@srrezaie
says, the ERs are becoming everyone, every time for everything.
I'm often saying in the emergency department that we know only a thin slice about a patient's life experience. This is why we need to be kinder. Their response to the current situation may be very reasonable.

Thank you. I have three sparkle lab coats for different occasions.
Here is my red & white one. Wore it when working the Christmas shift with some fabulous nurses.
Rural areas are turning into healthcare deserts.
No primary care, no mental health, & often no local ER.
How will rural people access the care they expect & deserve?
We need to get together as a society & address this issue.

Very excited to announce I've been promoted to Associate Professor at
@WesternU
@SchulichMedDent
in the Dept of Medicine.
Started out as an undergrad in 1986 and I'm still Purple & Proud.
It’s been 2 years since I lost my “little” brother Scottie unexpectedly. Not a day goes by I don’t think of him. Reach out to those you love. Miss you Moose.
I'm not embarrassed that, after 38 years of research and study, the best advice I can give to people is to be a little kinder to each other.
@NightShiftMD
It's hard as an outsider (Canadian) looking at the US and their complicated relationship with guns.
I've worked as a full time ER doc for over 25 years and never treated a patient with a gun shot wound.

Super proud of our daughter who graduated from high school last night.
She received the award for the top mark in biology and an award recognizing kindness.
Emergency physicians are reported as the specialty with the greatest burnout rate.
This evidence might be something healthcare leaders, HR managers and other administrators want to consider.
