Support for unions, collective bargaining might be high in Canada. But a smaller % of Canadians working in the private sector are unionized today than before we had laws protecting collective bargaining. We call that a failure of a labour law model trapped in the 20th century.
Unions are polling well in the US. In Canada too, there's a historically strong public approval of unions. So labour federations here could use that goodwill to make unions' biggest challenge -- private sector union growth -- their #1 priority. I don't think they're doing that.

The Doug Ford led Ontario Conservatives are vying for supremacy, but Quebec remains the king of using the Charter’s “notwithstanding clause” to crush constitutionally protected fundamental rights and freedoms.
Will probably use Charter Rights #notwithstandingclause: #Quebec plans to table bill banning prayer in public. Minister, "proliferation of street prayer is a serious and sensitive issue."#religion #bill21

In step with the collapse of collective bargaining in the USA. These are designed policies to suck wealth upwards to Execs and shareholders and away from workers. Then folks whine about shitty jobs and blame immigrants. Story as old as time.
CEO pay is up 1,085% since 1978, while typical worker pay is up just 24%. Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?.

When I teach the history of prohibited grounds in human rights law and how new ones are recognized as social attitudes evolve, I ask what ground is coming next. I say “how about AI”? . Nervous laughter ensues.

The @BlueJays are the only MLB team in the modern era to blow a lead in the 9th, 10th and 11th innings but still win the game.

In theory the American labor movement would mobilize a mass general strike like in the old days to resist corrupt billionaires from undermining the rule of law to harm workers. But what happens when large percentage of workers are on the side of the corrupt billionaires?.
This is what oligarchy looks like: Today, 2 Trump judges ruled that the NLRB’s structure is unconstitutional giving Elon Musk, worth $410 billion, & other union busters the absolute power to exploit workers & violate labor law with impunity. This disastrous decision cannot stand.

Amount of time & money the Doug Ford Conservatives spend on interfering into Toronto’s affairs is quite staggering. Especially considering that the party won hardly any City of Toronto ridings & none where the bike lanes are located.

In a press release, Ecojustice said the court's decision was a "landmark victory for cyclist safety and constitutional rights."

On the bright side there’s a good chance my Air Canada flight to London in September will actually fly. On the other hand, now looks like the London Tube workers will be on strike when I arrive. As I say, never a dull moment in labour law! .

Rare example of a Canadian university locking out professors at Dalhousie, starting this morning. Workers don’t get paid during a lockout and since classes don’t start for a couple of weeks, university figures it can put pressure on profs now.

For those saying “union leaders should have been thrown in jail” for defying order that Air Canada flight attendants return to work,. Curious as to what punishment should be ordered against @amazon executives who fired 4500 workers in Quebec to punish them for unionizing. Jail?.
