This is a thread that will explain the implied poor Burning Man truck maintenance practices based on this photo of a golf cart's right forward pair of tires below & the operational implications during the Nevada mud season. 🧵

I'm not sure people realize how big of a deal this is. High-altitude balloons might not be as sexy as autonomous weapons or hypersonics but I think they have the potential to be just as revolutionary for warfare, if not more so. 🧵 1/10
The U.S army has canceled its ERCA program which is capable of firing certain shells over 110KM. The army cited excessive barrel wear in prototypes. I’m unsure what this means for the future of U.S artillery or the new timeline for these capability’s.
Breaking: The US has begun conducting strikes on targets in Iraq and Syria, the start of what will likely be a series of larger scale US strikes on Iranian-backed militias who have carried out attacks on US troops in the Middle East, according to two US officials.
If you doubt the US's ability to retrieve intel from the Chinese balloon payload, check out the time the USN retrieved a Soviet supersonic missile that had smashed into *millions* of pieces, none larger than 6 inches, from the sea floor and managed to reverse-engineer it.

U.S. CENTCOM Destroys Two Houthi Terrorists' Anti-Ship Missiles
On Jan. 24 at approximately 2:30 a.m.(Sanaa time), U.S. Central Command forces conducted strikes against two Houthi anti-ship missiles that were aimed into the Southern Red Sea and were prepared to launch. U.S.…
You're against bombing the Houthis because you think missile attacks on international shipping are "protests." I'm against bombing the Houthis because I wanted their one F-5 to live. We are not the same.
U.S. is tracking a high-altitude balloon flying over the Western part of the country, U.S. officials told
@CBSNews
. Military aircraft spotted the balloon and determined it is not a threat, but its origin and purpose is still unknown. The balloon is drifting east in the jet stream

In the stratosphere there's always a wind going in the direction you want it's just a matter of adjusting altitude. Sounds simple but it wasn't possible until recently. It's pretty amazing what these algorithms can do. 7/10
"Asked what most excites him about the NGAD, Kendall said it is the inclusion of a “family of systems” in the program, which includes autonomous escort platforms, new weapons—including the secret AIM-260 JATM—and “offboard sensors.”

promises there are MORE GOP votes to remove Mike Johnson now than there were with McCarthy.
And if Dems save him? “He goes further in the hole with Republicans. He becomes toxic to the conference. For every Democrat who comes to his aid he’ll lose 2-3 more Rs.”
The U.S. has carried out additional strikes inside Yemen, this time targeting a Houthi radar facility, a U.S. official tells
@OrenCNN
. This strike was carried out unilaterally.
If they get hit, they don't pop like a party balloon. Rather they slowly leak coolant and can remain in the air for days. Once F-18s fired 1000 20mm rounds into a rogue weather balloon and it didn't come down for six days. 5/10

BREAKING: U.S. military forces launched “necessary and proportionate” strikes in Iraq today, on three facilities used by the Iranian-backed Kataib Hezbollah militia group and other Iran-affiliated groups.
Strikes were “direct response” to attacks on U.S. troops, per
@SecDef
On Jan. 30, at approximately 11:30 p.m. (Sanaa time), Iranian-backed Houthi militants fired one anti-ship cruise missile from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen toward the Red Sea. The missile was shot down by USS Gravely (DDG 107). There were no injuries or damage reported.
We must meet the threat with our valor, our blood, indeed with our very lives, to ensure that human civilization, not insect, dominates this galaxy now and always!
Balloons can basically do everything satellites do but better. No rocket launch means lower cost. Closer proximity gets better performance from sensors and comms. They can offer persistence measured in months. It's like a GEO satellite at lower altitude. 2/10
