It's very hard to narrow down. I prioritized trying to list remarkable anime along different themes rather than just giving my favorites. There are several of my favorites in here, though.

I used to be like this, Like, a hopecore guy, but now, after like, reading more superhero comics and really thinking about it, making the primary focus of a hero's ideology being about hope should be treated like a fundamental failure.

I also recommend "Arcane" and "To Your Eternity". I could make more recommendations but this is a good start. I have to end this massive thread at some point. 10/10

On the flipside, there are many stories, animations in particular that have pierced through this heart-numbing irony. "The Amazing Digital Circus" directly engages with this topic of finding meaning in a seemingly arbitrary world. I highly recommend this. 9/10

Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Fallout, Invincible, The Boys, all of these franchises will engage in meta self reference. 8/10

Zack Snyder's universe will not likely be readily accepted even if it does come back because it is too sincere and earnest. Predator will be an action hero that the audience doesn't have to fear. Deadpool's irony will touch every Marvel Superhero at some point. 7/10

This is why I do not believe that all it will take is the right movie to change people's outlook. For reasons such as these Eleven from Stranger Things is (probably) still alive when they are ready to make a new spin off. 6/10

This malaise, I feel, probably has something to do with the postmodern era. This is the social issue that I've hinted at in many of my tweets. Something(s) has put people in a defensive stance that has not allowed them to be emotionally vulnerable and available. 5/10

Another way I can put it is that enjoyment is no longer innate to the experience. For many people, they enjoy escaping to the degree that they are disenchanted with their lives. If they were not disenchanted with their lives, perhaps movies would not be as effective. 4/10

This is why there is so much power in "let people enjoy things." It would be difficult to take the fun out of something for someone else when there is no desperation involved. It's basically like saying, "This is that person's medicine. It's wrong to take it away." 3/10

A recurring theme that I've noticed throughout the years is that people, online and in my real life, don't feel enthusiasm for watching film for its own sake. It's a pressure release valve for their suffering, and it is just one of many options to distract themselves. 2/10

I see so many things changing so rapidly in film and other media. I don't connect with a lot of it, and the most I can do is examine why. I try to observe and find out why things are the way they are. I feel it's better than crudely barking obscenities online. 1/10

There's a lot of modern fantasy that is obsessed with sanding down any emotional/sociopolitical tension by making everyone unproblematic and fluent in therapy-speak in ways that make zero sense for the setting or characters, while allowing the quirky fun violence to go unexamined
