I always thought monopoly on violence would be the last function of government to get outsourced to the market. I now believe it will be the first, as warfare becomes increasingly tech driven. Followed by currency management and lastly social nets given up. I expect small states.
@thegrifft Governments primarily do 3 things. 1. deliver social services. 2. currency/economy management &. 3. maintain monopoly of violence. I think 1 & 2 are ripe for disruption, but the 3rd one should be maintained by the state. We don't want decentralized law & order or war & peace.

GG24: give money to different committees to allocate 🤮.
For GG24, we have a breadth of domains proposed (~20) but a lack of allocation mechanisms for distributing b/w projects in that domain. Outside of QF or futarchy, most domains are using evaluators to give away money, which is no different from web2 or web3 foundations

.@0xPaella asked me a question at the residence that's been living rent free in my mind,. ,,how do based rollups not default die?". After all they give up on both sequencer revenue & MEV fees for the good of the L1. I did some thinking on this question and a naive answer is.
in my final post on the iceland residency, i'm gonna go out on a limb and list my 5 favorite projects to emerge from it. research is a tricky one to evaluate since ideas are so experimental that judges can be completely wrong. in any case, here's my top 5;. 1. The most high

The beginning of the end for story protocol was when they made it an L1 instead of L2 for supposedly technical reasons. The strength of the eth social layer & how we build on each other far outweighs technical hiccups. You either die an L1 or live long enough to become an L2.
After 3.5 years building Story from scratch, I’m stepping out of my full-time role. I’ll stay closely involved as a strategic advisor. While incubating Poseidon, I rekindled my original passion from my DeepMind days: applying AI to frontier industries like science and space.

Honestly the end of the residency was a big relief, it took as much effort to organize as an Indian wedding 🥵. I'm very proud of our end outputs: 22 submissions from participants! I think we've shown a new way to do these sorts of gatherings;. 1. Book a coworking. 2. Book.

today @iammadab & I did a deep dive with @alexanderlhicks into an impact evaluator function for the lean programming language, which is unique in having machine checkable proofs. it has taken off among many mathematicians since it allows for easier collaboration with maintainers.

The first part of @CS_Synthesist talk was more generally around cybernetic systems that use feedback loops to regulate themselves & principles to keep in mind while designing them. One of the biggest dangers is humans start acting like how they have been modelled (or even their
