I love bringing life to ideas, smiles to people's faces. Rubyist, &c. — mostly off Rails. (Clojurist in training.)

I feel quite a disconnect between what I do for a living and what the world needs from me right now.

We are excited to announce the merger of two organizations dedicated to the Ruby space - Ruby Together and Ruby Central. This has been developed over the last several months, and it makes sense to merge during this critical time.

I have more leads than I can handle at the moment. I would love to pass some work off to some of my followers. Reply if you have freelance availability. I'm looking for Rails developers, Android developers, and, ideally, folks who want to learn Turbo Native! RTs appreciated :)

On another note, this Facebook incident will make for a very fun SRECon opening keynote. Amidst all the fun/snarky takes and all the feelings one might have for the company Facebook, let’s not forget it’s real human beings working behind the scenes under enormous stress. 😔

Can you survive a complete wipeout of your infra and how long will it take to recover from scratch is actually something that’s not often talked about. Even all manner of “chaos” experiments bake in all sorts of assumptions, that no one really prepares for this scenario.
After Facebook gets network back up I expect a long period of instability. Rebooting a distributed system of this size is hard. They will have cold caches and systems that need other systems to bootstrap. #hugops

One of the early-stage companies I work with has gone from 1 to 9 employees, across 5 different countries, in under 6 weeks. This is the power of global teams set up with an async-first virtual infrastructure from day 1.

I don’t believe you have to have passion to be a programmer, and was a bit sick of hearing the argument. So I spent some time unpacking with research how flow state is the reason that this is not a requirement and everyone is welcome in tech! https://t.co/32ukG6ol31

“…the people with physical access is separate from the people with knowledge of how to actually authenticate to the systems and people who know what to actually do, so there is now a logistical challenge with getting all that knowledge unified.”

Burnout is real. I’m leaving my job at the end of the month. It’s not anything to do with the job. I just can’t do it anymore. I’m also leaving the tech industry at the end of the month. Burnout is real.
