What does ‘IMG’ mean? IMGs make up a significant proportion of NHS doctors, both in Primary and Secondary care and this number is set to continue to rise over the coming years! This is why it is incredibly important to provide IMGs with all the support they need!

Welcome to Episode 5, Hyderabad. This is a very special episode for me because this is the first (of many) episodes with an immigrant who is an NHS consultant @drraja_ who has been pivotal as a source of motivation to me while I was trying to formulate this project. 1/10

One of our founders shared their story and their love for their city - Mumbai! 'What is home?'
We recently caught up over some warm chai in cold England where we talked about racism, the lack of a sabzi mandi, insurance and medicine, cultural differences and feeling like outsiders as we also spoke about her beloved Mumbai. Or as she puts it: "What is home? 2/10

👉🏻We’ll be posting more anonymous feedback in the coming days. Such an eye opener! We hope that the relevant bodies will do more to support IMGs in what is a monumental shift in their practice when moving to a new country and health system #supportIMGs #NHS #theheadstartproject

‘Started working in GPland as the pandemic hit. So stressful, switched to remote consult o/night. Never done this before, still quite anxiety inducing re- what if I miss something. Pts can be v demanding at times, colleagues supportive. Probably will look at other countries soon’

‘Been 6 months, still feel v anxious going to work. It’s been v difficult during the pandemic. Felt unsupported and like a burden. Really thinking of other options like US and Middle East. Sometimes I regret coming to the U.K. Pts generally nice but some can be v rude and nasty’

‘I felt completely out of my depth despite yrs of experience back home. Totally new system, strange acronyms, little to no induction. Colleagues were helpful bt some senior regs & consultants v rude, condescending. Cried a few times. Moved on to better jobs. Ppl are mostly nice’

‘felt loss of confidence. didn’t get much support. I wish my colleagues were much more supportive helping us understand the system. some aren’t bad but some are like underestimating to the new ppl. communication is the main problem for me, still cannot get used to the accent’

‘Overwhelmed! been practicing for 10 yrs & suddenly it was like housejob all over again. Extremely well supported, answering questions. I wish they’d help me with getting hospital accommodation sorted. Accent, system, more “work”, poor confidence, feeling my practice is inferior’
