I'm emerging out of maternity leave to share something I'm quite chuffed about! My paper titled "A Justice-Oriented Conceptual and Analytical Framework for Decolonising and Desecularising the Field of Educational Technology" is just published:
mdpi.com
Education systems globally are increasingly being shaped by the logics, assumptions and pedagogical underpinnings of educational technology (EdTech) products, services, programmes, policies, and...

#EdTech is often perceived to promote individualistic & Western ways of learning, sidelining diverse perspectives. A new framework aims to #decolonise & desecularise EdTech by identifying material & political injustices. Explore insights @TaskeenAdam paper https://t.co/PemvZvICpQ

Whether or not you are a person of faith, I hope that you can celebrate with me today that something that reflects all parts of me is featured in an academic journal and contributes to global knowledge production. (PS. this post was written during a contact nap!)

Desecularisation, in the sense that I use it in my paper, is a response to the increasing trends and forces promoting secularism as a universal worldview.

I've often experienced cognitive dissonance in my academic work, suppressing the spiritual parts of myself and not being able to draw on texts that I consider sacred.

Secondly, it was the first time I wrote something that truly embodied all parts of me, as a woman of colour and a person of faith. While I often write about decoloniality, I have never touched on secularity.

Additionally, I feel like my newly-found perspective as a mama infused in my work, with care, love, nurture, and cultivation emerging as central themes of a holistic education (that we often forget when talking about EdTech)

Whilst very sleep deprived, it kept my brain alert being able to write something I'm passionate about (and that I seldom got time to think about deeply with the busyness of a work day).

This paper is so dear to me, for two main reasons: Firstly, it was my baby alongside my baby. I wrote a significant portion of it during my maternity leave while baba was contact napping on me.

During the panel session on “Empowering the Global South” at #WISE11, @NarimanMoustafa shared her thoughts about the concept of coloniality. She raises the question: We need to ask ourselves how does education teach us to define success, progress, and happiness?
