Congress hasn't updated online safety laws in 27 years—before Facebook, before the iPhone, before social media even existed. Our children are navigating a digital world with protections from 1998. 27 years of inaction is 27 years too long. Congress must act NOW.

It is a shame that organizations like the NCAA have for so long been able to benefit from college athletes’ hard work and sacrifice while the athletes themselves are often exploited and mistreated. Our statement opposing the SCORE Act:

I lived the restrictions that kept me from earning while Vanderbilt and the NCAA benefited. The NCAA wants antitrust immunity so it can police athlete deals and return to an era of limited compensation and total control. Congress cannot allow that.

“A vote for the #SCOREAct is a vote against women’s sports.” Period. 💅
The SCORE Act is a direct threat to women athletes and the future of women’s sports. Professional women players associations agree.

Today’s vote on the SCORE Act matters. Antitrust immunity for the NCAA would lock athletes out of the ability to challenge a monopoly that controls their opportunities. College athletes deserve the same rights and protections as every other American. Congress should vote NO!

Name, image, and likeness rights gave college athletes what they should have had all along: the ability to profit from their own work. Now the #SCOREAct threatens to strip away those hard-won freedoms under the guise of “reform.” Learn more ⬇️

Congress is on the verge of imposing federal restrictions that would strip college athletes of their right to be paid for the use of their own name, image, and likeness. We must act NOW. Contact your representative and demand they protect college athletes' rights.

@USRepKCastor @FrankPallone: "We can all agree that we want our kids and teens to be safe online. Congress, along with parents, educators and states can and should play an active role in keeping minors safe."

@USRepKCastor: “These versions [of legislations] are a gift to the Big Tech companies and a slap in the face to the parents, the experts, the advocates, and to bipartisan members of congress who've worked strong and hard on strong child protection bills.”

While Congress delays action, more kids suffer online. It's time for Congress to pass strong legislation that protects kids online and gives parents the ability to hold Big Tech accountable—not watered-down versions that put profits over our children's safety.
