The Toronto Police Association (TPA) is the largest single association of its kind in Canada and represents approximately 8,000 civilian and uniform members.
Criminals will always find ways to get handguns. What’s really needed is strong deterrents for those who use them. Bail reforms, minimum sentences & consecutive periods of parole ineligibility for multiple murderers.

We are at a loss for words when our own Mayor refuses to stand by our members who have gone beyond the call of duty to police over 500 protests over the last 6 months. We have not spoken to the Mayor directly, despite an indication on Friday that she would call, and she continues…
For months our members have worked tirelessly to maintain public safety at hundreds of demonstrations of various sizes.
At every event, our members have valued, respected, and upheld everyone’s Charter rights.
But these rights are not unlimited.

RIP Bingo. 🐶 Last night,
@TPSK9
Bingo was shot & killed in the line of duty, while on pursuit of an armed suspect. The TPA sends our deepest condolences to his partner, family & to all the PDS members who do an incredibly dangerous job each & every day. (1/2)
Despite being shot twice in the face the deputy on the passenger side radioed for help, moved her partner who was shot in the head & arm to cover, applied a tourniquet to his arm & coordinated a response. These are the men & women who are police officers.
This level of violence & complete disregard for the lives of officers cannot be tolerated. Our members do not deserve this & yet they continue to put their uniforms on every single day & report for work. We are thankful no member or citizen was hurt last night.

We need meaningful custodial sentences for those who use firearms in the commission of violent offences to keep our communities and our members safe. We deserve better. You deserve better.

Charging exonerated officers or exploiting tragedy isn’t justice. Officers work tirelessly in difficult circumstances. The death of a citizen is tragic but due process & facts matter. Constructive dialogue on reform & oversight is welcome, anti-police & divisive statements aren’t

Officers were at the Eaton’s Centre to respond to a protest where threats were directed to a member of the public, not to police. The victim chose not to pursue the matter. TPA members are working each day to ensure protests do not escalate & we are grateful for their efforts.
As this terrible tragedy unfolded today, our members responded with incredible acts of courage, compassion and professionalism. Grateful to our members as our hearts go out to the victims and everyone affected by this cowardly act.
Last weekend’s mob confrontation, where our members were swarmed responding to upwards of 100 cars performing stunts on Meadowvale Rd, is one example of the blatant lawlessness our members are dealing with. This disregard for law & order is unacceptable

Releasing a “very well-known” violent offender into the community after he has faced more than 40 convictions in his adult lifetime is inexcusable. 8 of those convictions include failing to comply with court conditions and 6 convictions for not attending scheduled court dates…

Thankful today not to be grieving another police officer killed in the line duty. This officer responded to a gun call and it nearly cost him his life, highlighting our deep concern about the escalating gun violence in TO & the impact staffing cuts has on public & officer safety
The last few weeks we have raised awareness about incidents our members face daily. We have attended bail hearings for those accused of attacking our members. We have continued to speak out about the need for meaningful reform to bail legislation. We will not stop
