Tennessee is party to the Trump-led lawsuit to dismantle the ACA, effectively eliminating anti-discrimination protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

There are 300,000 uninsurable Tennesseans, 9 closed hospitals, and 24,000 uninsured veterans. Still, Tennessee's legislature continues to refuse $1.4 billion/year in vital healthcare funding.
Ask all your candidates," What's your plan?"

We are heartbroken. We just learned a great advocate for healthcare, Jane Hopkins from White House, TN, passed away. She, like at least 300,000 others in TN, fell in the coverage gap. 1/10

Facts don't lie: Medicaid expansion has a proven track record of improving health outcomes, covering more people, and keeping rural hospitals open. Call TN House Speaker Sexton, and tell him to support the bill to expand Medicaid:
"Expanding Medicaid is not only the right thing to do because it will save lives, but because it will be so beneficial to all of our communities all across TN."
Tell Gov. Lee and your legislators to deal w/ TN's urgent health crisis:
A block grant is no substitute for Medicaid expansion. The state still denies coverage for 300,000 working Tennesseans who lack insurance. The block grant clears the way for cuts in TennCare services. THREAD
How can TN safely return to work if you haven't taken on the common sense public health measure of providing affordable healthcare to over 300,000 uninsured people?

Access to preventative care and affordable treatment should be first priority.

Health justice is a major part of racial justice. With black Americans experiencing worse health outcomes on average than white Americans, there’s no denying that racism runs through the veins of our healthcare systems. A THREAD.
Our state's refusal to expand Medicaid has cost us $10B+ over the last 7 years.

Great news! No current TennCare enrollees can lose their coverage or have their services reduced while the emergency declaration is in effect. This is a WIN for the children, people with disabilities, and people in nursing homes who rely on TennCare.
I just renewed the COVID-19 national public health emergency declaration, effective October 23, 2020.

Over 128,000 children were purged from TennCare primarily due to administrative errors, not an improved economy.
It's apparent in this article that our leaders are more preoccupied with their image than finding health care solutions for TN's children.

Tennessee needs a Katie Beckett waiver now.
We are the only state that does not ensure coverage for medically complex children, like Alan, to get the services they need without institutionalization. We can do better than this.
The research is clear: "[Medicaid] expansion is linked to gains in coverage; improvements in access, financial security and some measures of health status/outcomes; and economic benefits for states and providers."
Gov. Lee is requiring Tennesseans to repay pandemic SNAP benefits, despite the USDA offering waivers to protect against this. This is outrageous, and if you agree, let him know. Sign our petition by April 14!
The Medicaid block grant is NOT 👏A👏SUBSTITUTION👏FOR👏EXPANSION👏
This plan can't guarantee that more people will be covered - in fact the spending cap means we'll likely see cuts to healthcare in coming years if the block grant passes. Contact your rep:
Gov. Haslam predicts that the next governor will have to address Medicaid expansion. "At some point in time, I think those states that haven't (expanded) will look around and say, we're all 50 states paying for it and 40 states are getting the benefit."
Nine rural hospitals have already shut down in TN, the 2nd highest in the nation.
How many more hospitals will our legislature let close because they won't accept the $1.4 billion/year in federal health care funding that would make TN’s hospitals 6x less likely to close?
Today, 15 nat'l patient advocacy groups reiterated opposition to the block grant. We work directly with TennCare consumers daily & are also opposed. As we weed through the noise surrounding the block grant, we hope TN leaders will opt to trust the experts:
