Bertie Bowman, who came from humble beginnings, had a unique grace and brought joy to all of us who had the privilege to serve with him. He loved the life that he lived.

My heart goes out to the Sundquist family with the loss this morning of Governor Sundquist. He gave 20 years in service to our state which he loved so much. I will forever be grateful to him in allowing me to serve in his first administration.

While we differed at times, I always respected him, and enjoyed our many hours together. My heart goes out to his family whom I know will miss him greatly. (2/2)

I am saddened by the passing of Roy Herron, a dedicated husband, father, and public servant. In the mid nineties, we ran many miles together always intensely discussing our points of view on policies relating to Tennesseans, our families, and our beliefs. (1/2)

I applaud Gov. Lee for taking steps to strengthen the efficiency of firearm background checks and encourage him to work diligently with the General Assembly to pass a common sense order of protection law keeping firearms out of the hands of those who are a danger to our citizens.

The administration would be wise to heed @FareedZakaria’s advice.

If Ukraine does not continue as an independent democracy, it will mark another milestone in the decline of the U.S. and the West. Half measures on sanctions and support are not cutting it. We are at war.

Congratulations to @GovBillLee and @CommishTNECD on this outstanding announcement. I could not be happier for our state and the many families in West Tennessee who will benefit greatly from this partnership with @Ford.

Some of my most memorable experiences as a young Commissioner of Finance were dealing with Sen. Harper. She was a fierce advocate for her constituents, but beneath that tough veneer was a warm and kind human being with a great sense of humor. She has a special place in my heart.

Senator Brock served our country with distinction and honor and made our state proud. His care and concern about our citizenry was always on display until the very end. I will miss his kind words of encouragement and cheerful nature, and my heart goes out to Sandy and his family.

Congratulations to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. I wish the new administration well as they work to address the many challenges facing our great country.

The American people are witnessing the true character of Donald Trump today and the culmination of his actions. I hope those aiding and abetting him in Congress will rethink their approach, with the understanding that if they do not, they will own this with him.

I am saddened that some senators plan to undermine our democratic process that gives the American people, not politicians, the right to elect our president.

The incoming administration should be extremely careful in its approach to the deeply flawed Iran nuclear deal. The Trump administration has created tremendous opportunity in the region that President-elect Biden can build upon.

While the president has the right to legitimate legal challenges, responsible citizens cannot let the reckless actions by him and his legal team stand. Republicans have an obligation when the subject is of such importance to challenge demagoguery and patently false statements.

The election effort that matters now is ensuring Georgia sends at least one Republican back to the United States Senate on January 5.
