We're working to determine how much this will impact Rhode Island's trans/gender non-conforming community, given strong protections in state law. In the meantime, we echo @GLADLaw's concerns.
The creation of the new Conscience and Religious Freedom Division at HHS is yet one more example of this administration pandering to score points with its political base. The existence of the new division does not change the law. 1/4

At least, not here in Rhode Island. It is still allowed in many others, however, and the fight continues.

A group of community members, activists, parents, educators, and political leaders won a tremendous victory this year. Conversion therapy - the practice of attempting to change a child's sexual orientation or gender identity, like what happened to Leelah - is no longer legal.
