In the timeline where Rare remained with Nintendo, they've found a way to force the Switch to run Banjo-Kazooie: Chief Bloatazin's Revenge at 4k resolution with raytracing. The only downside is it runs at two frames per second and it might* shorten the life of your dock.

If you look closely, the barrels these seal badniks toss at you in Pinball Carnival Zone are styled after a certain... obstacle from a past Sonic game.

IMO Colors was probably the most creative, yet *cohesive* aesthetic the series has ever had. Every level is built around a common theme of an interstellar amusement park, but they're all *delightfully* distinct.
This is actually a big reason why I love Sonic Colours so much. The space location really allowed Sonic Team to be free with their environment designs, and combined with the ‘classic’ feel resulted in a game that really felt fresh aesthetically.

On this day, Sonic CD is twice as old as Mega Man 9. They both came out on September 23, in 1993 and 2008 respectively.
Mega Man 9's success was such a watershed moment. I'm so glad 2D games survived and even thrived. For a while it looked like they'd die out with the GBA.

A rule of gaming discourse: Things from two decades ago are pure and beautiful and the way things always should have been.
But things from ONE decade ago are overrated and ugly and were actually always bad.
I don't often dredge up past negativity, but if you've ever met a Donkey Kong Country or Rare fan with a massive chip on their shoulder, it's PROBABLY because of how both were discussed in mainstream publications in the aughts.

On the early internet, Sonic 1&2 was ALWAYS considered the high point of the series, while Sonic 3 was sometimes thought to be too much of the same thing.
As per usual, that didn't really change until the kids who grew up playing it got online.

Bizarre that it's this close. 3D meant a complete rethinking of every last one of gaming's conventions. Some genres were broken, some genres were made, player expectations shifted, the whole industry was redefined.
The 6th gen was a refinement of that, but nothing close *to* it.

This blew my mind as a kid. Seeing a video game referenced in ANY other media was rare enough, but that it was something so *recent* and specific and KIND was unheard of at a time when society still expected adults to "grow out" of this stuff.

RCS is a brilliant VA and has actually been my favorite game voice for Sonic ever since he started, but the way he was directed in Frontiers might just be my *least* favorite portrayal. Sonic ain't Sonic with no energy or attitude!
