In 2001 brothers Jake and Tremane Wood committed a botched robbery that left Ronnie Wipf dead. Jake, who said he killed Ronnie, was sentenced to life. Tremane, who insisted he did not kill anyone, was sentenced to death.

Robert Roberson’s story shows exactly why we must end the death penalty. There's an abundance of evidence pointing to his innocence, but he's still on death row in Texas. Take a moment to read more in the San Antonio @ExpressNews:

Justice requires the courage to admit when we’re wrong. After two decades, Robert Roberson will finally have his case reviewed again — this time with new evidence and up-to-date science. Taking the time to get it right doesn’t weaken our system. It strengthens it.

It's World Day to End the Death Penalty. I'm rejoicing that the TCCA has given Robert Roberson a new lease of life. I'm saddened that this year has seen a sharp increase in executions over the past years. We have so much work to do to end this racist, flawed system.
