And the colonisation of decolonisation (as I put it🤣🤣)is when the whole social structure stays exactly the same with some performative gestures and a whole lot of grandstanding. Universities and their departments are a great example of no change but grand claims of decolonising
Decolonization, as Fanon put it, is when a whole social structure is radically changed from the bottom up.

@ahmed_nilufar .. liberal racism is pervasive. It sits cozily with imperialism. It unsees racism. Its eyes are trained to see barbarism in Muslims, as a homogeneous mass, not complex humans, like everyone else. . So even fascism appears normal, a matter of 'diversity of
Genuinely terrifying to live close to these protests. Please stay safe. The hypervigilance is killing us. Also aware if the attacks weren't on Muslims, employers would have sent messages of support and issued statements of defiance. Seeing none of that. This is fascism in action.

Language matters. When politicians&news outlets frame violent riots by right wing extremists&white supremacists as 'protests', the extremists know they are safe & protected bc they are just protesting-& 'racism is illegal innit?' as shouted by a white supremacist yday in Bristol.
“Protests”. You keep saying “protests” @BBCNews - do you mean white supremacists are on the streets terrorising Muslims? What exactly are they “protesting” against?

Politicians need to call out what we’re witnessing: straight up racism & Islamophobia. For too long, the media & political establishment have normalised Islamophobia & anti-migrant rhetoric. This is the direct result. We need a mass movement to challenge & defeat this fascism.

If you can process at a graduation, please do.I never saw an academic that looked like me as a student,so had no idea it was a career option. I've had lovely messages from students about how excited parents were to see my in my sari on stage, and how much representation matters.

Islamophobia is rampant as this horrifying incident shows. So many Muslims are feeling unsafe&scared-at a time when the focus should be on collective grieving of lives lost in a small community. Educators failure to name & challenge Islamophobia also lets it flourish is society.
This is the inevitable, devastating, outcome of rising Islamophobia that's enabled to fester on social media, in mainstream media, and by our political class. Our thoughts are with the people of Southport, and British Muslims across the country. https://t.co/pKHVsVTVhk
