Retired Royals VP; PR for Team USA in 2023 WBC; Husband to Renee and father to Jayhawk grad, Rachel, and pups Bentley & Brody; 2022 Missouri Sports HOF inductee
Alex Gordon may be done playing, but he’ll always be remembered in the clubhouse. Prior to tonight’s game his iconic image after his 2015 WS home run and his familiar

were placed above his locker. Going forward, whoever gets that locker will know who once resided there.
This just rips my heart out. In 1991, I was the researcher for ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. Worked 26 weeks in the booth with these two gentlemen and had a blast. Joe Morgan became a friend, from production mtgs to post-game beers, he was always great to me. This is a sad day.
Hey
@NFL
, get your rules together. Two weeks ago,
@StoneColdJones
was talking to Matt Ryan of the Colts. No pushing, shoving, helmets colliding yet he got a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Then last night’s crew let this happen, but didn’t know roughing the passer.
The guys in the clubhouse are pulling out all the stops this weekend. Here’s a shot of tonight’s uniforms to honor
#4
. He has the only clean jersey pregame (other than the pitchers) as his teammates’ jerseys already have the familiar pine tar strip on them.

It’s been a crazy year. We have gone from over 100* in August to -8 in December. We have had 11 games with the 12th being the 5th straight AFCC. Thankful for my crew and all the work that has gone into getting us through the season. They are the BEST! We have learned so much!
Below is the list of all Major League players with a .300 career average, .400 career on-base pct., 350 home runs and 200 stolen bases.
Larry Walker
Let’s see about getting him in the Hall of Fame this year...
We had a couple of pre-game visitors from across the parking lot spend some time with Dayton and Ned. Great to have
@Chiefs
GM Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid over to visit and take in today’s game.
We know tomorrow is known as Red Friday, but here is
@Royals
version of Red Thursday. “Coach Yost” addressing the troops, the entire squad and who we’re wearing. Good luck Sunday
@Chiefs
Big kudos to umpire Alan Porter for recognizing situation and stepping out to give the time out sign and allow Moose to get the recognition he so richly deserved. Moose told me yesterday he had not played in front of fans here yet, due to Covid year and the I.L. in other visits.
Funny, Chris Jones is docked by referee Shawn Smith for talking, but it’s okay for
#26
Rodney McLeod to tap Ammendola on the helmet mocking him after missed PAT. Bad miss by both Ammendola and the NFL. Guess nobody ever said it would be fair or consistent.
No doubt BWJ’s play and instinctual throw was amazing, but equally amazing was
@SalvadorPerez15
picking up the throw on the backhand side and being able to get back to the plate for the tag. Just an outstanding play by two outstanding players.
Right now I’m something that I’m not very often — speechless. This belongs to my entire dept., for without them this isn’t possible. I don’t do this for the accolades, I do it for my love for the sport and the job. Thank you KC Chapter of the BBWAA. You made an ol’ guy’s year.
It's my great honor, on behalf of the KC chapter of the Baseball Writers Association, to present Royals media relations guru Mike Swanson with this year's Good Guy Award, which goes to the Royal who most helped beat writers do our jobs. Swanee was a Zoom machine for us. Congrats!
I was PR director for D’Backs at this time. The reason this is only video of the pitch is because the anchored coaching camera in CF was the only one in the ballpark. U of A was in NCAA tourney and all local TV’s were with them. I got this clip from our video coach in clubhouse.
You wanna know what pressure is? Pressure is having one swing to reveal the gender of a child for a pair of Royals fans and Adalberto Mondesi squared it up perfectly. And yes, they’re having a girl. Nice work Mondi.
My final road stop after 43 years at this. Oddly enough both me and that logo on the field are exiting after 2021. That logo has more time in than I do.
We just hit send on a release that tugged at my heart when I wrote it. When you’re in the bunker with someone for 10 years, which is way longer than any previous manager I’d worked with in my 41 years, you develop a bond and a friendship. Thank you for everything, Ned.
I grew up around the Chiefs organization and like everyone else was hoping they were Super Bowl bound today. Since last night didn’t go the way all of us wished, guess the boys in red will just have to win it all next year. It worked for us across the lot, now it’s your turn.
All of the pics I’m posting is basically since y’all can’t be at the ballpark this weekend. Hope it shows up on Twitter, but you’ll note that

is stationing himself on the

. Great work by
@kcgrassman
and his crew.
Eight years ago tonight I finally made it to bed at 5:00 a.m. and brought a newly acquired date with me. Yep, it was the night the Boys in Blue walked out of Citi Field with this trophy. As I’ve said before, I’m blessed to have had two trophy wives in my life.
Hey
@Royals
fans, if you want to know what kind of person
@bsinger51
is, turn the volume up. If this isn’t the type kid you want to pull for I can’t help you. Not sure what happened, but it got awfully dusty in my house while watching this.

Today is very special to my heart. To give back to the two people who have given up everything to support my brother and I. I can’t thank them enough. Love you Mom and Dad
Yeah, I know I’m “retired” but why not take MLB up on the offer to work one more Fall Classic?
#16
in this long career, 12th working with my friends at MLB and four others with my clubs. Been a helluva ride.
A peek down “position player” row in the clubhouse with all lockers adorned with the Salute to the Negro League uniform of the 1949 Kansas City Monarchs. Come to the yard and check out the helmets and shoes too. Unis to make
@nlbmprez
proud.
It takes a sick and nasty human to steal the Jackie Robinson statue in Wichita and destroy it. My heart aches for
@nlbmprez
, his staff at the
@NLBMuseumKC
and all others who have worked their asses off at celebrating the greats in our game’s history. This is disgusting.
I’ve worked with hundreds of players in my 42 years, but can count on one finger the number that I spent 14 years around with the same team — Alex Gordon. His first AB, the iconic HR in Game
#1
of ‘15 WS, his countless great catches and the 7 Rawlings Gold Gloves.
#4EverRoyal
Now that I’m done crying from the ceremony I’ll post this photo with tonight’s guest of honor. He hasn’t changed a bit and it was awesome catching up for a couple mins.
I’ve never been a great typist with tears in my eyes, but hang with me on this one. They finally got it right and Buck is among the baseball immortals where anyone whoever met him knew he belonged. Congrats to
@nlbmprez
and
@KionaSinks
for their tireless efforts of support.
We’ve always known it, but now it’s official.
Buck O’Neil is Forever Legendary.
Congrats to our late Chairman John Jordan Buck O’Neil on his well-deserved and long overdue induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame!
I vividly remember Mike Livingston subbing for six games when Len Dawson suffered knee injury in ‘69. End result? Super Bowl Champs. Think positive thoughts y’all.
Four years ago I hated the OT rules after both teams played as hard as they didn’t and the game comes down to a coin toss when you have such phenomenal offenses. I cannot be a hypocrite tonight. Yes, my team won this time and I’m ecstatic, but I know how Bills fans feel now.
Big day in the Swanson house. Our daughter,
@itsrachswan
received her Super Bowl ring today after assisting in Chiefs PR last year. It joins mom’s necklace pendant and dad’s cuff links from when mom was part of the Chiefs staff for over 30+ years and my 2015 World Series ring.
Hey
@mellinger
, I’ve told you this privately and will say it publicly — We got the right person. Your love for baseball, your relationships within our organization, your candidness in the interview process and your love for the community where we live made you the best choice.
Doing this job with and for you has been a joy. Thank you a million times.
Stepping in for two legendary sports columnists at the Star wasn't enough, so now I'll do it for the legendary
@Swanee54
with the Royals.
This plaque sits in a picnic area in the SE corner of an Arrowhead lot. The circled name is the reason I’ve been privileged to work in pro sports my adult life. Yes, that’s my late mom, Betty Swanson. Good luck to my friends across the lot as they aim to bring another title to KC
Guess who’s ready for Sunday?
@SalvadorPerez15
will likely be behind the plate at kickoff on Sunday, but wants to lend his support to the guys across the parking lot.
I had the honor of being Jim Nantz’s stats person for his first two Final Fours. Below is Jim and BIlly Packer doing their open before the ‘92 title game in Metrodome. Fred Couples, Jim’s golf teammate at Houston, was our “runner.” He won the Master’s the following Sunday.
Congratulations to my best friend, who also doubles as my daughter,
@itsrachswan
, as she graduates today from the University of Kansas. Renee and I are so proud of her, busting her tail to get done in 3 1/2 years and now ready for the next chapter. We love you, Rach.
Was honored to be inducted as a member of the 2022 class of the Missouri Sports HOF. Thankful for all blessings including Renee and
@itsrachswan
. Sat at head table between Matt Holliday and 1980 Miracle on Ice’s Ken Morrow. Talk about me being fanboy. What a night.
280 characters aren’t even close to enough to tell my one Lou Brock interaction. Obviously he made a huge impression and I’ve never forgotten it. Rest in Peace

Alrighty, everyone knows how great a photographer
@jsleezer
is for the KC Star. The best in sports. We’re also very fortunate to have
@JasonHannaphoto
on my team here
@Royals
. While waiting for Alex Gordon to beat the drum last night, Jason snapped this phenomenal pic.

Just got the worst possible news you can get about a friend — Pedro Gomez died tonight at age 58. I’ve known him for 33 years. He was our beatwriter in both San Diego in the 80’s and again with Arizona. He was a true family man, who was one of the top at his trade. So very sad.
One final tweet tonight - I was on the bench handing out Gatorade and scraping cleats on Christmas Day, 1971. It was gut-wrenching even for a high school kid who was a clubbie. Today brought back great memories and a tear to this ol’ guy’s eyes. So proud to be a Kansas Citian.
The day has finally come!!!! After 43 years in the biz, my dad has finally announced his retirement coming at the end of the season. To the hardest working, most passionate and all around greatest person I know, CONGRATS!! You deserve this!!! ❤️
I seldom, if ever, display personal texts, but I wanted to go back to one of our last exchanges to let anyone who didn’t know what kind of person Terez Paylor was. This man had so much heart, so much kindness and so much talent, it’s excruciatingly painful to know he’s gone.
Watching Nate Eaton homer for his first major league hit brought tears to my eyes. Having the opportunity to follow his climb through the organization and speak to his teams thru the years, it does my heart real good as a retiree seeing these guys do something special.
I saw the lightening hit as Drew was sitting there but wasn’t sure if anyone captured it. How dare I question whether
@jsleezer
would have it? Death, taxes and Sleezer gets the shot.
Indulge me folks, time for a “dad brag.” My little lady,
@itsrachswan
just let me know that this 2017 Blue Springs South grad has completed her final coursework at the University of Kansas. All she has left is a fall internship and she’s a graduate. So proud of this young lady.
When our clubs are competing, each of us want our team to win. The competition does not get in the way of friendships as evidenced by this. The
@RedSox
PR/Broadcasting crew is sending me home with a piece of Fenway Park. I will miss these relationships when I step away.
Had the chance to say hello to a “young” old friend. Great seeing
@TheRealHos305
today. Not quite used to him in brown, but happy for him in one of my old stompin’ grounds. Thanks to the always on the ball
@JasonHannaphoto
for spotting the reunion and taking the pics.
Just wow. I was asked to work booth stats in an NFL playoff game in Philly with John and Pat Summerall and a week later John asked me to work the ‘82 Super Bowl. I stayed with that crew through ‘84. When we had games in NY, he’d take me out for pizza on Sunday night. A great man.
Everyone knows I’ve had a pretty good run through the sports life, but this weekend has topped ‘em all. To see
@itsrachswan
’s excitement through the parties, South Beach visits and then tonight’s win has made being this girl’s father the greatest highlight of all.
Watching all of the so deserved talk about the man they call Junior during the Home Run Derby in Seattle. It reminds of the workout day in Miami during the WBC and at the urging of fellow coach Brian McCann, Junior grabbed a bat and unleashed that all took familiar swing of his.
I want to personally congratulate
@WhitMerrifield
on his club record 31-game streak. I wish for so many reasons it had gone longer because he possesses the perfect temperament for this type of attention. He doesn’t seek it, but handles it fabulously. Thanks for trusting me too.
This plaque stands in a picnic area to the south of lot D at the Sports Complex. It represents KC’s last appearance and lone win in the Super Bowl and I know in my heart that woman who is circled in gold has done her part cheering from heaven today. Congratulations Chiefs.
I asked him to hold the helmet in his lap while making the prediction, but as has been the case for 10 years, he one-upped me. Thanks, Skipper. You’re a treasure.
There is no chance I can express my thoughts on the great Len Dawson in a simple tweet. Though there are so many stories from my past interactions with the Hall of Fame quarterback, bear with me on the attachment for just a snippet into my past.
I was San Diego’s PR rep on this trip and remember this like it was yesterday . For some reason I still possess the handwritten note that Eric Show left in the clubhouse for me to read to the media after the game. He went back to the hotel before game was over.
If you’re gonna hit in Andre Dawson in the face, that’s gonna result in you getting your ass kicked or you running off the field. Eric Show chose running off the field. Don’t fuck with The Hawk.
I couldn’t be happier that these four players are being recognized for the year they had defensively. For those of us who had the absolute privilege to watch
@nick3lopez
play shortstop this year, I’m truly shocked we don’t have a fifth finalist. He was spectacular.
It is an honor to tip my cap to the 100th anniversary of the Negro Leagues. I’ve had the privilege to call
@nlbmprez
a friend for so many years and we are blessed to have him and the Museum in our hometown. If you’ve not been to the Museum, you owe it to yourself.
#TipYourCap2020
A really good guy who hit a walkoff grand slam for the
@Royals
in Kauffman Stadium toward the end of 2013. Now he’s a Dentist. Congratulations
@JustinMaxwell43
.
For those who question the validity of Rawlings Gold Gloves as to whether they are awarded on reputation, the Wilson award is NOT. Alex Gordon was literally the best leftfielder in the game in 2018 based on all the metrics and statistics. Congratulations Alex!!!
