These WIM activities NEED to be a part of what you plan to do with Ss early in the year. They help to create a numeracy environment where Ss will thrive and they reinforce what is valued in your numeracy classroom @SunriseSDMB

It’s National French Fry Day! Which is your favourite? Check out the link for several interesting graphics for data analysis & interpretation with Ss. These would lead to some interesting predictions, discoveries & mathematical conversations! @SunriseSDMB

The @BTCthinks approach was alive & well Grade 4 while Ss worked through mild, medium & spicy problems involving Canadian Coins found in their Math Tool Kits! Ss are asking for vertical, non-permanent surfaces & random group opportunities more often! @SunriseSDMB @pgliljedahl

In Grade 2, Ss explored a @gfletchy 3-Act Math Task exploring balance & equality. So cool to see balance scales, pattern blocks, white boards and more to represent Ss mathematical thinking & persevere through struggle productively while trying to find many solutions @SunriseSDMB

Also in Gr 4, Ss shared a very high level of mathematical discourse while talking their way through their thinking in the “Mystery Box” warm up routine by @SteveWyborney I through a couple of “twists” their way on the fly and Ss responded very well (100 became 82) @SunriseSDMB

In Grade 4, Math Workshop allows Ss to work in small groups doing various jobs. The teacher is a station which allows her the opportunity to provide small group instruction to Ss who have a similar need! @SunriseSDMB

In Grade 5, Ss shared a game they have been playing that focuses on place value, probability & rational numbers (decimals) ALL Ss have learned to accurately read or “say” rational numbers while creating values in hopes of trying to beat their teacher!

Math. Teams of 3 decide on items to total 24 hours. Calculate cost and calories. The team with the highest ratio of hours-to-calories-to-cost gets a coupon for free fries at McDonald's.

There are so many numbers to dig into in sport. For the upcoming Stanley Cup Final, how far with the teams travel if the series goes 4 games? 5? 6? 7? If the flight take 5 hours 36 minutes, how long will they spend in the airplane over a 4, 5, 6 or 7 game series? @SunriseSDMB
