It is with sadness that I am resigning as Housing Minister.
I pay tribute to all my ministerial colleagues, officials, and civil servants in the Department and the wider sector.
I look forward to continuing to serve my constituents in Pudsey, Horsforth, and Aireborough.
I have been asked by many constituents who I intend to support for leader of the party. We need a Prime Minister to lead us out of Brexit and provide a vision for the future of our country. I believe Boris Johnson can and will succeed in this.
#BackingBoris
Having given this a lot of thought and taken on the views of many constituents over the last few days, I have decided to support
@RishiSunak
in the leadership election. A detailed focus on the economy is needed, and he has that experience
Sport has the power to unite & inspire so it’s vital that all sporting events, such as the
#FIFAWorldCup
, are open & inclusive
I’m wearing the
#OneLove
armband to support the LGBT community & send a positive message that everyone should feel welcome at all sport tournaments.
Delighted to present
@rachaelblackmor
with her honorary MBE today - the the first female jockey to win the Grand National in its 182-year history. Congratulations Rachael! 🏇 🎖️
If Leeds isn't allowed to bid for City of Culture why don't we start our own competition. Let's start the Commonwealth City of Culture. UK cities currently in the process be the first city and open to the commonwealth for future years, amazing culture we can share and experience
Delighted to have been reappointed to my role at
@DCMS
by the Prime Minister, and asked to also take on the responsibility of Equalities at
@tradegovuk
Am hugely honoured to have been appointed Under Secretary of State in the Ministry of Defence with responsibility for procurement. Will miss the Wales office and thank them so much for all their help and support. Back home now for a busy weekend of constituency events and duties

Even though this is the day we sadly knew was coming and dreaded, it doesn’t make it any less painful. One of my best and longest standing friends has gone and it’s impossible to put in words how wonderful a person Karen Lumley was.
Today, I’m supporting
#RainbowLaces
because there is no place for any kind of discrimination in sport.
This campaign does vital work raising awareness of the stigma and discrimination LGBTQ+ people in sport still face.
Lace up. Make sport everyone's game.

So very grateful to the people of Pudsey, Horsforth and Aireborough for electing me again as their MP. I owe so much to a fantastic team of people who worked so hard and thank them for everything. Thanks also to all the other candidates & THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL WHO supported me
I am at a loss for words.
To lose another colleague like Sir David Amess, in such awful circumstances, is hard to comprehend.
Sir David’s passion was clear for all to see across 40 years public service. A truly lovely man.
My thoughts are with his family at this time.
I haven’t posted for a while as I have been trying to help literally thousands of constituents with serious issues to deal with during the Covid crisis. It’s been very hard not being able to get some the answers they need but I won’t stop continuing to try.
Thoughts and prayers for the PM and his family this evening. We all have a role to play in trying to stop the spread of this virus. Wishing him a speedy recovery and thank you to all those who are looking after him.
Last night I officially swore in as the Member of Parliament for Pudsey, Horsforth and Aireborough. An honour and a privilege and grateful to all who supported me.
I’m delighted we have announced today that the Conversion Practices Bill will be published this Parliamentary session.
👉 The Bill will introduce a ban on these harmful practices, including those aimed at transgender people
It is vital we get this right 🌈
The rise of
@AFCWimbledon
is a powerful example of the importance of football fans in the face of irresponsible club ownership
Delighted to meet
@dannymacca81
and fan groups to hear their experiences and explain how our football governance plans will help protect clubs and fans
More MPs voted for Rishi to be the leader of our party and the next PM as they know he has the determination to deal with inflation and be up front with the British people
I am supporting Rishi as our next leader. He has helped me in my campaign to get the Infrastructure Bank located in Leeds and allocated £20m for the ring road improvements. A serious man for serious times
I don’t mind admitting it but there have been times in my life when I have felt lonely. As the Minister for Loneliness I now realise that stigma about it is the biggest problem. It can have so many other consequences.
What an incredible night! In the Pudsey constituency we have won 10 out of the 12 seats contested. Gained two off Labour and two off the Lib Dems. Only sad part is we lost Rod Wood. A massive thank you to voters for their support and to the team for working so hard.
Some said a deal could not be done in 12 months. Some said the PM only wanted a No Deal. Well credit where it is due, he and the negotiating team did it. Referendum honoured, election pledge delivered. Fair play
I am so deeply saddened to hear of the passing of James Brokenshire.
A wonderful colleague, I had the pleasure of working with James on a number of occasions. He was unfailingly the most charming, kind, and generous of individuals. My thoughts are with his whole family.
Utterly appalled by local Labour Party and their latest literature. They say“As long as our area is represented by the usual tired old Tories”.What ageist nonsense. The people they refer to have more energy than most people I know. Hang your heads in shame Labour. Gutter politics
Confess I found the statement by
@theresa_may
very moving. Her resilience has been something that I have admired against a very difficult situation. She has always wanted to do the best for our country and I thank her for her service. A true public servant.
@Jeremy_Hunt
@michaelgove
Jeremy - thanks for your letter. I’m happy to meet with you. I took the decision in line with the independent planning inspector’s report. The Secretary of State was recused from this application as a Surrey MP and had no involvement in the decision.
Privilege to be a part of the procession in the State Opening of Parliament by HM The Queen as the Treasurer of the Household. Photographed with Mike Freer the Comptroller.
Great time earlier meeting England fans with the

in Sydney to cheer on the amazing
@lionesses
- We’re all so proud of you and wish you the best of luck against Denmark! 🦁🏴 (1/2)
It was made even better by a surprise visit by the amazing

Had a busy day reading the briefings for my new role in the MOD and now at the Pudsey Conservatives barbecue being overlooked by the Cenotaph, reminding me of the huge sacrifice so many of our Armed Forces have made for our country over the years.
The terrible news in Horsforth today is deeply shocking and distressing, and my heartfelt sympathy goes to the family of the victim.
I cannot imagine how they will be feeling and my thoughts are prayers are with them at this dreadful time.
Great to speak on the importance of sport and physical activity at today's Sport England reception. Joined by representatives from across the sport and physical activity sector who do vital work to get people active.
Many thanks to
@stonewalluk
,
@LondonFA
and
@leytonorientfc
for inviting me to attend an incredibly important LGBTQ+ Inclusivity in Football event.
It was brilliant to hear what’s being done to fight discrimination and ensure equal opportunities for LGBTQ+ people in sport.
The
@RLWC2021
was just the start of my newfound excitement for rugby league. Yesterday I visited
@officialBullsRL
with
@judithcummins
ahead of the start of their 2023 campaign this Sunday against Dewsbury. Sport has such a valuable role to play in our communities.
Visited
@BAESystemsplc
Warton today where the

Typhoon is built. With more than 20,000 flying hours on deployed operations to date, the Typhoon delivers world leading capability, unparalleled and proven interoperability with our allies.
Was delighted to be able to get to and meet
@WTM_London
today for my first visit as Minister for Tourism and meet with representatives from
@visitbritainbiz
. Tourism has a huge role to play in driving growth, and I will do what I can to champion that
Great to spend the afternoon with the
@ukyouthparliament
at their annual conference in Leeds. Around 160 MYPs were there debating issues. As an MP and as Minister with Civil Society and Youth in my portfolio, I am always impressed by their passion and desire to engage.
Kevin Sinfield is an inspiration to us all, completing a gruelling 7 ultra marathons in 7 days Kevin has raised over £2.7 million and counting for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and former teammate Rob Burrow. Man of the Match effort Kevin!

Delighted to see that Leeds Council plans for a Link Road to Leeds Airport are to be scrapped. Long argued, alongside Conservative Councillors and residents, this was a bad idea. Rail link and investment in ring road is what we need.
Proud to stand with our friends from Ukraine tonight. As Minister with responsibility for Eurovision it’s been great to work with our counterparts from Ukraine, inc. the Minister for Culture and his Deputy, the Ambassador and his wife. What a show! Well done to Liverpool 🇬🇧🇺🇦
Welcome the commitment by the Secretary of State for Transport to intervene in the ailing Arriva Rail North franchise. Decision to be made at end of this month whether Government will take over franchise. Welcome news for my constituents subjected to this poor quality service.
Grateful to Chief Secretary to the Treasury for accepting my invitation to visit Leeds to see the great work at Kirkstall Forge with Rachel Reeves, Cllr Andrew Carter and LCC to discuss funding for transport & the importance of brownfield development over destruction of greenbelt
Received this beautifully embroidered envelope through the post with a most important message about mental health today. Really is special and I agree we have more to do to get this right.
So very proud of my good friend and former Ward colleague Cllr Graham Latty and his wife Pat Latty who have become Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Leeds this evening. A truly wonderful couple.
When your
#MOD
team give you an early birthday present, you get excited and then realise it’s your prep folder for Defence Questions in the House In Monday!!!
May Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II rest in peace, and her family be comforted by the gratitude of a grateful nation for a remarkable reign.
This is a truly sad day.
God Save The King
I am collecting the contact information of constituents who would be willing and able to help support the more vulnerable in our community during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, particularly as the virus reaches its predicted peak over the coming weeks.
Last result in from our constituency and it’s another win. This time in Horsforth and Rawdon where
@CllrJTaylor
has been re elected. Absolutely delighted. Thank you for the support
One of my responsibilities in the role is to deliver messages from Her Majesty to the House of Commons. Today was the first time I had to perform this task and walking backwards was certainly concentrating my mind.
Brilliant to meet with the
@Bradford2025
team and
@bradfordmdc
yesterday to discuss their UK City of Culture 2025 plans and hear from inspiring youth leaders (1/2).
Great to meet with
@JoCoxFoundation
,
@redcrosspolicy
and other key groups at the APPG for Tackling Loneliness, hearing about the work they're doing to raise the loneliness agenda. Driving forward cross-government action to tackle loneliness is one of my key priorities.
Such a privilege to listen to an incredibly moving and powerful speech from Ukraine’s President Zelensky today in Parliament.
A moment I will never forget.
Wow, they keep coming. Another incredible result with Dawn Seary being elected as the new Councillor for Pudsey, Tyersal and Swinnow with a huge 2042 majority. Thank you to all who supported and well done Dawn.
Great to meet with the team who are working hard for the upcoming Leeds 2023 Year of Culture. Will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase everything about the city and all the communities around too.
