I'm predicting now the the NZ High Court will produce over 4000 decisions this year. Last year it did just under 3900 - but, by the MNC, the Court is running two weeks ahead of the equivalent numbering to last year. I know no one else cares about this but I love this sort of stat

Had occasion to re-read Brooker and Morse today. Hard to describe but they seem like they're from a different age in terms of how the Supreme Court talks about rights. It's not that the results would be different, but I just don't think the conversation is the same.

It used to be that the best way to be appointed to the High Court was if your father was a judge. But soon, thanks to greater diversity efforts, the best way to be appointed to the High Court will be if your parent was a judge.
