Ibn ʿUmar (رضي الله عنه) narrated that he heard the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) say: “When you enter into the ʿīnah transaction, hold the tails of oxen, are pleased with agriculture, and give up conducting jihād (struggle in the way of Allāh). …. (1/4)

Such people are thereby deprived of the true essence of knowledge, as Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) said:. ‘I will turn away from My signs those who act unjustly with arrogance in the land.” (7:146). (3/3).

For this reason, the affliction of knowledge is arrogance, and the affliction of worship is showing off (riyāʾ). (2/3).

Shaykh al-ʾIslām Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) said:. “Many of those who affiliate themselves with knowledge are tested with arrogance (kibr), just as many of the people of worship are tested with shirk. (1/3)

…. “Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) is the Creator of all of it – the heavens, all of them, and whoever is in them; and the earths, all of them, and whoever is in them; and whatever is between them – of that which is known and that which is unknown.”. (6/6).

al-ʾImām Ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabarī, and al-ʾImām Ibn ʾAbī Ḥātim (رحمهما الله) narrated from Ibn ʿAbbās (رضي الله عنه) that he said regarding the statement of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى):. رَبِّ العالَمين. “Lord of the Worlds.” (1:2) . …. (5/6).

The term: “العالمين (al-ʿĀlamīn)”, the plural of “ʿālam” refers to everything other than Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى), as was stated Qatādah, and al-Qurṭūbī mentioned it being the most correct statement on this matter. (4/6).

Shaykh al-ʾIslām Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) said that ḥamd is to mention the praised one’s virtues with love. (3/6).

3. The praise of the Ḥādith for the Qadīm - like the praise of a human for Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى). 4. The praise of Ḥādith for the Ḥādith - like the praise of a human for another human. (2/6).

Ḥamd (praise) is of four types: . 1. The praise of the Qadīm (Eternal) for the Qadīm - like the praise of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) for Himself. 2. The praise of the Qadīm for the Ḥādith (the Temporal) - like the praise of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) for His prophets. (1/6)
