A new paper led by @cesearle presents a lack of evidence for #cheetah presence in #Tanzania’s Selous-Nyerere landscape. Based on spoor & camera trap surveys conducted from 2020 to 2022 in addition to enquiries with PA management staff & tourism operators: https://t.co/EG0sQU8IQY

New paper led by WildCRU’s Charlotte Searle reveals important insight into spotted #hyaena population densities, interaction with other carnivores & human impacts. The valuable contribution of students in camera trap data analysis is also highlighted. See https://t.co/Wx5594V9W5

Thrilled to have this paper out, with a team led by @Strampelli. It looks at research trends and biases in population assessments of large #carnivores, and highlights the lack of representation of authors from range countries in many studies @WildCRU_Ox

Our new (OA) article is out! We show how modern camera traps can be used to help #lion population monitoring, using examples from southern #Tanzania's understudied #Ruaha-Rungwa landscape. Thanks to @cesearle @AmyDickman4 @PhilippHenschel @macdonalddw @mkuburo @smitjosephine!

Wonderful to have this out there, especially open-access. #Cheetah have been surprisingly understudied across much of their range, so good to have this insights from @ruaha_npark and wider landscape. Congrats @Strampelli @cesearle @Alexlobora & others! https://t.co/N0ezi2svON

@katzyna @s_pooley @dilysroe @ConsActionTrust @rosie__cooney @PaulJoh93195432 @IUCNSULi I personally think both hunting and non hunting orgs should fund conservation. The insinuation that any funding, let alone <1%, biases our scientific outputs should concern us all as impartial scientists.

https://t.co/rECCpS04Ux @OxZooDept 's reponse to unfounded insinuations appearing in the media last week. Such low-blow attempts at miscrediting opinions through blatantly false accusations have no place in a scientific debate, regardless of one's personal views on the topic.

I just find it really horrifying and sad that modern conservationists could even think that this is an acceptable stance to take. I don't see how we can fulfil our aim of a sustainable, equitable and wild planet for all, if we persist in thinking and talking like this.

@MarinoJorgelina @sciencemagazine @pili_scotland @hannahsmumby @ClaudioSillero @Andy2Dobson @harvross @lusseau @ElephantGuy1977 It is definitely not simplistic - replacing trophy hunting with activities such as 'agritourism' is very concerning, as they don't rely on the presence of viable wildlife populations. Despite their iconic status, there is no published density assessment of any leopard population in #Tanzania. Charlotte Searle, with @ruahacarnivores, is conducting research to address this knowledge gap using #cameratrap surveys
