Caught up with Mike and Steve Irwin. They farm at up to 55 degrees slope. The field we got a photo in is called "THE WALL". They run 5 of these early 1980s 1470

It's all about global crushing capacity.
#canola
seed at 750$/t is good buying for crushers when selling meal at 400$/t+ and oil at 2300$/t+. Problem is Australia grows 6mmt but we can only crush 1mmt. The balance of seed 75% goes to Europe.
Family Holiday. Staying 120km north of Mildura and I'm stunned to find crops growing like this in a 280mm per annum rainfall. It's a desert out here even the aboriginals left the region 25,000 years ago and moved to the rivers regions . Amazing innovation .
#mungo
Drove 500km on mainly dirt roads from Mungo to White Cliffs yesterday and I was amazed to find wheat crops along the way. I had to pull over at Pooncarie NSW. That's 270mm rainfall country and avg temp between djf is 35*c. Hats off to this farmer.
Great day out. John deere also spoke about RTK water management tools and rotory ditchers vs V ditchers. Water management is a ke step going forward on this farm.
Thank you to

@Johndeere
@cjrempelfor
for bringing a machine out, and helping us with our harvest. It was a beautiful way to honour our Dad. Partnerships like this is what were always very important to my Dad and will continue to be for our farm!

harvest finished and done changing concaves for another year! I wish

made lighter concaves. No rain last 6 weeks means means yields are less than expected ;)

Here I am at Broken Hill NSW in the middle of a desert and I find some grain silos on the Sydney to Perth line. Former grain site of Tandou grain. I went inside and find chewed out grains of barley.
800km today. North Star to Moree on wheat is 30% done..barley 65%. Plenty of canola is still standing and windrowed. Not a lot of fabas planted oddly. Chickpeas are all standing. Dubbo to Narrabri crops look 3/10
Drove a few km's today. Unthrashed
#wheat
in fields across s.nsw still looking ok surprisingly after another 140mm of rain this week on it.

The tradition of eating at Chinese diners for

Happy Australia day!
Sorghum quality excellent so far with good test weight and protein.
@Maersk
we need more empty containers so we can send more sorghum to China.
I know it's ironic but feedlots are hoping that some crops this year get frosted so we can have some hay. Hay will be tight this year
#plant19
@lostkelpie
IRRIGATED sorghum in the ground but not much in the Darling downs. Dry in general for summer cropping program. A few wheat fields still need to be harvested, but in general, the winter crop is finished. No wonder the feedlots are buying grain from southern nsw
@StoneX_Official
Cheap water this year in the MIA at approx 70$/mg offset by high fertiliser price. For ever tonne/ha of

#corn
you need to approx 50kg/ha of urea . If you want 15t/ha corn crop you do the maths.

Looking back at last weekend. My Sons teams won the Leauge rugby finals South Eastern White's u8 and he also won best and fairest. Probably the peak of my life in Australia. Its a tough game, but so is life!

territory today; from Mildura headed south to Manangatang and then Swanhill Vic. Crops gradually improved. You can see farmers are hopeful of a good crop with a new Grainline bunker loader and some field bins showing up.
The war for summer acres is on.
With water going from 120 to 200$/meg decisions are being made.
Corn at 15t/ha . @ 400$/t xfarm is equivalent to
10 cotton bales/ha at 650+ Ctsd at 500$/t x3t/ha

silos should be much busier but Hard to get grain to market when roads across southern nsw are like this. Oddly headers are going in fields and having to bag grain.

Rivers/channels are on the verge of bursting with water to feed south australia in the middle of summer yet nsw can't grow crops. Bad decision making.
