I've done worse #watervole trap rounds! This was this mornings' view from the boat.

I’m seeing a lot of anger and disappointment in badger circles today that the badger cull is ending, but not ending fast enough. Apologies for the long thread 🧵, but tet me explain why I think the news is the best it could be 1/25

We don't always pick up wildcats on our camera traps, sometimes we pick up other species having fun too 😻 Check out this video of some stoats enjoying the summer ⬇

@Perdixwildlife please let me know if you want additional testers for your mink raft water vole exclusion devices - I could put 6 or so to very good use! 🤞😀

#Mink are on the move! This time of year mink are winding up their breeding, with individuals moving around to find new territories. Help stop them in their tracks by adding #MinkRafts to the @MappMink Download the app free: https://t.co/hY0PAXR1if

#FarmWildlife_spotlight_species 31: Water Vole. Ratty is threatened in the UK primarily because of predation by introduced American Mink, but also by pollution and eutrophication of watercourses and habitat degradation🧵

Water voles have suffered one of the largest declines of any mammal in Britain, losing 90% of the population due to: 📉habitat loss and degradation 🌊predation by American Mink but there is hope, as the dream of a mink-free Britain is now more realistic than ever

For 2024 #InvasiveSpeciesWeek we are shining a light on the American mink - an invasive predatory mammal established in the wild in Britain. To start us off - what are #Americanmink and how did they get here?

So, why are #AmericanMink a problem? Mink are an introduced species which have become established in the wild in Britain. Our native wildlife has not evolved alongside them and some animals are very vulnerable to predation. One of the species most affected is the #watervole. 1/3

Amazing footage of a #mink investigating #watervole borrows (marked by flags), clearly demonstrating how easily a mink can access water voles and predate an entire colony with ease. Footage courtesy of Environment Agency FBG West Dorset.

Today, some of our members took part in training with the @RiverThameCT, learning how to set up mink rafts, which will be deployed as part of ongoing monitoring for the Water Vole Recovery Project. Check them out for more information!
