BUT I’ve spoken to a trader who says they “could not make a business model work” in Chester’s new market. @vinological decided not to apply after hearing @Go_CheshireWest wanted 20% of their takings as rent. Hear from @StileNapoletano below too - who say they were turned down:

THAT is the art that was taken from the storage container and put into the ‘alfresco area’. Since then, one piece has been half destroyed because it was covering a fire hose and we have no idea where the other half is.

Let’s discuss the alfresco area ‘investment’ … Deva Arts, a group of mostly professional local artists took on a community project for the council. The council never held up its end of the bargain (community involvement) and we basically just created art for free.

I’m heartbroken for @ThatBeerPlaceHQ @DEATHBYTACOS_ and all the other traders. The council know how badly this industry has been hit. This is getting to the point of being utterly cruel.

So a council that closes a WHOLE market, stopping everyone from trading, because ONE person has to isolate, is being trusted to spend £75 million public money on a new development with a new market? Why can’t one of the mgmt team open and close the market and allow them to open?

Chester market management lie to themselves when they RUIN beloved businesses with a myth that being a market trader is a springboard and nothing else. They treat traders like dog shit and they’ve done it with public money this time.
