Great to hear but unsurprisingly covid was not directly t
1. #PediatricHepatitis: 2 groups of researchers in the UK have posted preprints that flesh out a new theory on what may be behind the apparent increase in cases of pediatric hepatitis of unknown etiology seen this spring in the UK & Europe & first reported in Alabama last fall.

Good news for Americans - vaccines for those over 6 months old if they want them.
Good news, folks: Vaccines for kids under 5 have now been authorized by the FDA and recommended by the CDC. For the first time, virtually every American can access the protections from these lifesaving vaccines – from our youngest to our most senior Americans.

While this is still (quite rightly) under investigation, it’s definitely great news that cases are dropping
Great news that the cases of paediatric hepatitis of unknown cause appear to be declining in the UK Adenovirus remains the most commonly identified pathogen https://t.co/0WVVSFYItW

This has been (probably) the biggest communications failure of the pandemic. Vaccines provide medium-term protection against severe disease or death: nothing more or less
Severe COVID-19 (lower respiratory disease leading to hospitalization and/or death) is nearly always preventable with current vaccines. Asymptomatic infection or mild COVID-19 is generally not preventable with current vaccines. When it comes to what matters most, vaccines work

A very good article with a sensible challenge - we very rarely consider vaccines for bacteria. With the threat of AMR on the horizon, maybe we should review it!
Wrote a thing about bacterial vaccines - an under-appreciated tool to combat antimicrobial resistance 👇 LINK: https://t.co/7vi05SBGCR

A very sensible precaution to protect those who are exposed and at-risk
📢 UKHSA has procured over 20,000 doses of a safe smallpox vaccine (called Imvanex, supplied by Bavarian Nordic) as part of our rapid response to rising #monkeypox cases. 🧵⏬

A very sensible comment. We have to remember that there is a minimum viral load required to cause infection, and that physical contact with lesions is likely to produce a much higher viral load than any aerosol spread
@Pembs_Citizen_Z Monkeypox can spread via respiratory droplets during direct and prolonged face-to-face contact. The droplets travel through the air and while they can aerosolise, it is of no use to MPX virus because of the high dose required for transmission (much higher than SARS-CoV-2)

#Monkeypox Anyone with unusual rashes or lesions on any part of their body should contact NHS 111 or call a sexual health service. With recent cases mainly reported in gay and bisexual men, those in this community should be particularly alert. Get the latest updates ⏬

I had a patient tell me that her winter cold was a direct result of her destroyed immune system from a covid infection a year earlier. No other explanation would satisfy her. Absolutely obsessed

The final humiliation of the Zero Covid strategy is about to begin, and hundreds of thousands could die because of it. China’s lack of recovery immunity + ineffective vaccines means the whole population could be vulnerable. It’s going to horrific

https://t.co/boiDMgIMLX A great paper showing excess mortality values - it may surprise many, but the UK was one of the top performing in Europe and average in the G7 and Western Europe

So many people seem to have forgotten the guidance! It’s no longer the law in 🏴and never was in Northern Ireland or 🏴 (only required in 🏴 now), but is very sensible to keep everyone safe:
📢COVID-19 isolation guidance hasn’t changed! • Isolate at home • Day 1 starts day after pos test • On Day 5 & 6, take an LFD test • If both negative stop isolating • If either are positive, test daily until 2 neg tests 24 hrs apart, or midnight Day 10, whichever is earlier

Freedom is fragile. Certain academics advocated for the removal of almost all of our rights for 2 years, no matter the cost because of a disease. Human rights are meant to be absolute; not traded away for our own “good”. Freedom is fragile.
