As moving as it is to hear Russian POWs call their parents, apologise etc. I am begging everybody to stop spreading photos of POWs. You don’t *know* that there’s no coercion and the best way to make sure there’s less coercion of POWs in the world is to not spread this stuff.

☝️It has been one year since the January 2025 suspension of USAID. In our new paper (with Annabelle Tan and @ashaniamar), we treat this suspension as a natural experiment and examine how foreign aid withdrawal affects conflict dynamics. A thread: [1/7] https://t.co/sbKYCf946V

This. In Sweden politicians are debating the catastrophically high unemployment rate (about 8ish percent), while Denmark is patting its back for the low (3-4ish). The employment rate is all that matters.
>nice employment rate, is it just labor force participation? >haha it's a good employment rate sir >look inside >it's labor force participation

Political Triumvirates as successors to a single, charismatic, powerhouse leader - a historically very successful, great idea.
Donald Trump names JD Vance, Marco Rubio and Scott Bessent as Republicans who could carry on his legacy, in the second part of a wide-ranging interview with NewsNation's Katie Pavlich Tonight

An illustration of why it’s difficult, if not impossible, to separate speech rights from private property rights
The State could “nationalise” online platforms and use their algorithms to promote “whatever we choose”, an Irish politician has suggested at an ‘online safety’ committee meeting this week: https://t.co/JcgWpW9bnM

My latest in @WSJFreeEx is about one of my biggest pet peeves: the tendancy to call just about everything "trauma" or "abuse." It's okay to just be heartbroken or disappointed! Those feelings matter too!

FIRE, unlike the ACLU, has consistently held the line in defense of freedom of speech, whether the attacks on it come from the left or the right. Good for them
BREAKING UPDATE: The government pressured ABC — and ABC caved. The timing of ABC's decision, on the heels of the FCC chairman’s pledge to the network to “do this the easy way or the hard way,” tells the whole story. Another media outlet withered under government pressure,

The decline in European fertility should be the great issue of this era It will distort our societies, economies and politics. Far more than Brexit or the war in Ukraine And yet it barely features in today's politics My op-ed for the @Telegraph

I actually think “I detested everything he stood for but I would die defending his right to say it” is a more important moral commitment than arguing that someone didn’t deserve to die because they had some good qualities
The “I don’t agree with him but no one deserves to be shot and killed” take is such a low bar in basic human empathy Better to say nothing at all than to denigrate Charlie’s life’s work and signal moral superiority while you make sure people know you don’t condone murder

FFS, how did people suddenly decide that assassinations were something we did again? Whitmer, Paul Pelosi, Trump, the UnitedHealthcare CEO, the MN state legislators, now Charlie Kirk. So freaking sick of this era already.
