This is an important point. Latin is also useful for archivists, librarians, and many in heritage. Reading medieval records and bringing their contents to new audiences is incredibly rewarding and enlightening.
Do they think it is an elitist subject? We won't have any medieval historians without Latin, why close that route to state school educated children? Even early modernists like me need an understanding of Latin, I just wish I was better at it!
