The Illusionist is now out in paperback! It's the "enthralling", "superbly entertaining", "delightful", and "satisfying" true story of an eccentric genius who made magic into a weapon of war.

@RobDotHutton Rest assured no body doubles were required. A second chainsaw was an important redundancy given cutting through this much red-tape is no light work.

This is really interesting. I now want points of comparison from previous decades.

Part of the reason we enjoy movies is that we get to see ideas and situations played out to people who are not us. We can then learn from what they did, what they didn't do, and how it worked out for them.

Fascinated by this film, in which:.*we see two different chainsaws at work.*we never see a full body shot of Griffith wielding either of them when they're running.*we learn that chainsaws are not, in fact, very good at cutting up piles of paper.

Unemployment up, growth weak, debt soaring. Labour’s 300-page (Un)Employment Bill isn’t about workers’ rights - it’s a gift to their trade union mates. We can’t afford it. We’ll take a chainsaw to its job-killing measures. Politicians talk of cutting red tape: we’ll deliver.

This may be a signal from @CPhilpOfficial that the Conservatives want to restrict the right to jury trials on this kind of offence. Or he may just be shooting his mouth off because it's a Friday afternoon in August.

It is astonishing that Labour councillor Ricky Jones, who was caught on video calling for throats to be slit, is let off scot free - whereas Lucy Connolly got 31 months prison for posting something no worse. The development of two tier justice is becoming increasingly alarming.
