Honored to win a @spj_tweets Sigma Delta Chi Award for Reporting on Inequalities in Society for my series on disparities in how Florida prosecutes juvenile delinquents! . Grateful to all who trusted me with their stories and my colleagues and editors.

Whatever one thinks of any of the folks mentioned here (I personally can't stand Anderson), describing ~JAMES JOYCE~ as a "pure stylist" is just so incredibly ignorant and demeaning towards the work of perhaps the finest author of the last century! . I hate cultural discourse!.
I like Wes Anderson. He gets it. Actors don't really matter, scripts don't matter, film is a visual medium, scenes are series of paintings meant to stimulate the viewer. Watching his films is like reading Nabakov or Joyce, he's a pure stylist. And as he gets older his films.

The announcement, coming even as Elon Musk floats the idea of "deleting" the IRS, has been welcomed by transparency advocates. @Ianpgary of @FACTCoalition called it a good example of why funding the agency is a "smart investment.".

🧵. Three years after my @miamiherald story on offshore giant Trident Trust's potentially dubious practices, the IRS announced a sweeping probe into the firm's role in helping wealthy Americans evade taxes. (LINK BELOW).

Honored to win a Sidney Award from @SidneyHillman for my story revealing kids tried as adults in Florida receive stiffer sentences than older, adult offenders. The story is part of a yearlong @MiamiHerald investigation, JUVENILE CRIME, ADULT TIME:.
Congratulations to @ShirshoD of the @MiamiHerald on winning the September Sidney Award for demonstrating that Florida kids convicted as adults serve longer terms than adults for the same crimes:

I spoke to @NPR/@cfpublicmedia about my stories on teens tried as adults getting higher sentences than older offenders + Florida's "direct file" law that gives prosecutors sole powers in deciding which kids to send to the adult system. 20:40 to 33:00.

@MiamiHerald Florida is one of 13 states that give prosecutors unfettered power to try children as adults. And when judges decide the penalties for those kids, they give them higher sentences on average than older, adult offenders, @MiamiHerald found.

A months-long @MiamiHerald investigation into the assault and its fallout, published last week, revealed numerous systemic failures in the years leading up to the incident.

@MiamiHerald @ever_madeline @semerriam @benbwieder @jessicalipscomb @danabanker Time and again, Brendan Depa's family tried to get help for his autism and mental health issues. And time and again, systemic failures thwarted their efforts. He now faces up to 30 years in prison for assaulting a teacher's aide. (gfx @HandleyRachel) .

@MiamiHerald @ever_madeline @semerriam @benbwieder @jessicalipscomb @danabanker The investigation also found that Hispanic individuals who interact with the state's legal systems are often misclassified as "white" — taking away their own identities and giving the appearance that disparities are not as stark as they actually are.

This @MiamiHerald project wouldn't have been possible without stellar graphics by @ever_madeline, @semerriam and Neil Nakahado and guidance and support from @benbwieder, @jessicalipscomb and @danabanker!.

30 years ago Florida enacted a law that gave prosecutors sole discretion to try delinquent children as adults. But Black kids have borne the brunt of the law in disproportionate — and growing — shares. w/ @clarasophiadaly and @devon_milley.
