Reports of an active shooter at Central Catholic High School in Oakland were a hoax, according to school officials. There was no shooter at the school. A county spokesperson said similar reports were made at two other schools in the area.

The county also plans on keeping the low-barrier shelter at Smithfield United Church of Christ open past March 15 — its traditional closure date — due to high demand for services. The shelter currently has more than 100 clients.

Allegheny County announced it’s working with Pittsburgh Mercy to reduce the number of people in overflow shelter at Second Avenue Commons, and “expects the overflow capacity to close this week.” For a look at what this winter’s been like at the shelter:

The county will also continue operating a low-barrier winter shelter at the Smithfield United Church of Christ every day from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Update: Second Avenue Commons officially opened its low-barrier shelter this afternoon, with 95 beds and space for 30 overflow beds. It’s located in downtown Pittsburgh at 700 Second Avenue, and will open its day program and primary care clinic tomorrow at 9 a.m.
