Slides are visual aids that assist your presentation. Anytime you put something on your slides, its primary purpose is to help the *audience*, not you. Nothing should distract from your verbal presentation, it should only enhance it. A mini-presentation on slide design. 1/

Not just automated captions but actual human subtitles 💙 Accessibility should NOT be an afterthought in events. All our recordings will include subtitles. #WTSFest

Got invited to speak in a conference today. Here's my reply, similar to most replies I initially send out when invited to speak. Got an extremely detailed response on both points, my respect to the organiser. Hope this is helpful to others 🙌🏽

A great reminder that allyship is not an achievement you unlock but rather a journey with many challenges, wrong-turns + revelations
@amandanat Honest answer: I used to not notice. 2003-2009 I barely even thought about DEI or representation. But now, total 180°. I'm usually one of the first folks events try to get on their roster, so can ask point blank about their DEI goals, then help by making suggestions & intros.
