Brian Chesky gave the perfect 10 minute hero's journey story a few weeks ago at Config. Founders and CEOs are always looking for great examples of storytelling, speaking, and leadership. This right here is as good as it gets. Why did it work so well? To start with it's 9

Storytelling is having its moment. Most will get it wrong as it will lack the depth and visceral nature of the best storytelling. And great storytellers know it’s a verbal art that they are always engaged in.

So many AI agents for excel coming out past few weeks. Seems like the traction on one forced all the others to announce.

Adam and the entire Owner team are incredible. Congrats to them all!
I’m feeling blessed to share: Owner raised $120M Series C and is now at a $1B valuation 🦄 Mom-and-pop restaurant owners are being crushed by huge corporations. We’re using this cash to arm them to fight back. • This round was co-led by 2 perfect partners for us: Alex

"Heckman's education research on healthy habits (e.g., reduced smoking) & Lusardi's on financial decisions are two sides of the same human capital coin: education builds self-control & forward-thinking for health/wealth, esp. w/ heterogeneity & early interventions." @grok 1/4

Great communicators make the message clear. Then they make it emotional. Then they make it musical. It’s a 3 step process of refinement.

Don't get caught in the trap of sounding like all the other founders out there. If you listen to all the "conventional wisdom" you're going to blend in. Be memorable.

It's so important that the best founders in America have the ability to storytell and make the world believe in their mission. Especially the dual use companies.

It takes much longer to nail telling your story than founders think. Needs to be effortless and packed with emotion.

The opening line of Red Rising is the definition of hooking the reader. "I would have lived in peace. But my enemies brought me war." The rest of the first page builds on it and finishes with a stunning dismount... "He is wrong. None of them will survive."

The reason great founders tell their best stories repeatedly is because it indoctrinates people into their worldview. Only works when you can tell a great story.

I wrote my thesis on Narrative Design and Strategy of the Religious Right in the 1970s and 1980s. I believed the Narrative Games would get significantly more vicious and important. That was back in 2010 and it’s crazy to see where things have gone.

The effortless communication by Vance last night showed once again why great communicators shape reality. As a former debate guy and trial lawyer myself, he executed brilliantly and there are so many lessons to take from his delivery.
