No. 9 in our Top 10 highlights of wildlife seen on our 2025 tours - Dotterels. We enjoyed absolutely incredible views of these two migrants at Stenness in May. Very small numbers pass through Shetland every spring so it was an absolute joy to watch this pair.

In the run up to 2026 we'll be featuring our Top 10 highlights of wildlife seen on our 2025 Shetland tours. To kick off, here's No.10 - a magnificent summer plumaged Red-necked Grebe at Wadbister. Far from annual here with most records in winter and only one previous June record!

One of two Northern Long-tailed Tits on the island of Yell, Shetland early this morning. It was like watching excited golf balls with wings and I'm not sure there is a word that can justify their beauty.

August was a Minke Whale-filled month for us here in Shetland with several individuals off the coast of the south Mainland. Check out the gleaming-white diagnostic short pectoral fins of this individual, filmed in Mousa Sound. @Seasaver @Britnatureguide @whalesorg @marcrileydj

Out sugaring for moths in our Shetland garden last night underneath this beautiful Aurora. Nature's very own firework show.

The beautiful sight of a nursery pod of Long-finned Pilot Whales in Mousa Sound, Shetland yesterday morning. Check out those tiny calves - some just a few days old. @Seasaver @mcsuk @whalesorg @SeaWatchersUK @Britnatureguide @cathgem2000 @sharontrys @Shetnews @NLFerries

A nursery pod of Pilot Whales! Just a few of the 25+ Long-finned Pilot Whales in Mousa Sound, Shetland this morning. Some of the calves were tiny and looked just a few weeks - if not days - old. An absolute privilege to watch them. With thanks to The Mousa Boat for dropping us on

Our two 'Ultimate Shetland' groups enjoyed the Summer Solstice on Mousa watching and listening to hundreds of Storm Petrels returning ashore to the Iron Age Broch at 'dusk'. Have a listen! Video by @ShetlandWild tour participant David Sowdon.

Lovely displays of Edmonston's Chickweed (aka Shetland Mouse-ear) on the serpentine fellfield at Keen of Hamar last week for our 'Ultimate Shetland' group. This Cerastium is endemic to the island of Unst and found nowhere else in the World. A must-see for our visiting guests!
