After tracking, no garbage time, Brown ran an 80% organized offense rate. 0.62 PPP and 0.98 ePPP in those plays Struggled with pace and execution. Committed 17 TOs, want them to cut that down. Struggled from three too. Looking for more conversion, and better pace today

Here's some of the value Yabusele brings. He's being defended by Gobert and a simple attack of a closeout forces a rotation that results in a wide open corner OG 3. Simple but important

🎭 New York Times reporter posts cringe video downplaying crime Nick Kristof posted a very silly video mocking concerns about crime and insurrection in Portland. The problem? He posted it miles away from where the crime is actually taking place.

Missed the Knicks game live so here's a short thread Fully expect Bridges to be a more impactful defender in part because he'll get more reps defending PnR with Mitch. He gets clipped on the screen and can recover from behind bc of Mitch's active hands forcing a crossover

PFAS-free is a big deal in semiconductors. Getting rid of “forever chemicals” seems like a clear win, right? Turns out it’s probably greenwashing: 🧵1/10

Same play, Wolves brutally botch their assignments when Yabusele cuts off his off-screen
NY Knicks BLOB | Stagger for in-bounder Some of the best BLOBs involve running the in-bounder's defender through action. Most of the time they relax after the pass or aren't ready to now turn and run through screens

Bridges was amazing defensively in this game. Really good job on Edwards

Knicks 1st half shooting in the half court last night: 16% eFG (-15) C&S Shot Making Points Added [ shots x (C&S PPS - C&S ePPS) ] | 54% of shot diet (-18) overall from 3 Shot Making Grade: F
27 threes at the half Overall think most of those are good looks. It did get sloppy with execution in the 2nd quarter

Helps to have multiple handlers and this is where Jordan Clarkson can carve his role as a paint toucher and decision maker

Good possession highlighting the Knicks trying to find holes in the defense on their own and get better looks Weave action, sometimes the slot cutter can keep or they can pitch it to the elbow. McBride struggles with his handle here, so they go to the elbow for zoom action

@ShaxNBA A lot of the “read and react/game tells you what to do” propaganda has warped minds. Automatics are there so guys don’t have to wait for calls or allow the defense to pre-switch. Also not stand around and watch the JB show.

Yeah there's more of this than people realize Some coaches do it more than others. The people saying "it's like Thibs" are dead wrong, it's nothing like Thibs. Brown has a system with well defined principles, and it's up to the players to learn it
A lot of NBA fans seem to think every possession is some pre determined play because they remember running plays 10,000 times in 9th grade NBA teams practice like 5-10 times per season This is not that unusual, the league is all read and react.

We've seen Brunson not use the step up screen after the ball reversal a few times this pre-season. I like the idea of attacking early low-man help. I think part of Brunson going this route is Robinson's sluggishness getting to the screen. A valet jog won't cut it. A lot more if

Mike Brown on Knicks' offensive appraoch tonight: "We've...restricted our guys to doing certain things...we played the entire game out of our read-and-react early offense. We don't have a single playcall in yet. We play off of makes and misses...take what the defense gives us"

Get 45 Zoom Brown can say he didn't call the play, which can be true, but the concept is as clear as day He talked about how great of a mover Bridges is, we know that too. He does a great job staying active and moving to the ball to make something happen.
I gather that they done this for the past 3 games, bc it's been the same. Definitely a work in progress, and this is the way to go opposed to spam P&R throughout a flow of a game

Jalen Brunson on getting a feel for the Knicks' new offense: "What we're working on right now is the basis of our offense and everything. It's going to take time. It's not always going to be perfect but it's all about how we continue to trust it and learn it"

Mike Brown on Jalen Brunson adapting to his style in the preseason: "I haven't really let Jalen go yet, but he's trying to do what we're asking him to do, so everybody's on the same page and growing together. But he is definitely getting a feel for it"

Why does GBM matter 🤔 Auctions should reward everyone involved. GBM makes this possible by ensuring that value creation benefits participants and not just platforms.

This is very different from anything Thibs had done with them in the flow of the offense. Brown's flow is done through cutting, pace, pinch post and handoffs, and involves the whole team. Don't get the two confused

I don't think people are taking that quote the right way at all. The offense is heavily conceptual and Brown wants them to get used to it in the flow of a game. I have a whole video on my substack about it. Him "calling plays" vs "conceptual offense" is very different
I gather that they done this for the past 3 games, bc it's been the same. Definitely a work in progress, and this is the way to go opposed to spam P&R throughout a flow of a game

Mike Brown says the Knicks played this entire game without a single play call, just reading the opponent and reacting accordingly. Says he wants the team to learn to play off of instinct before they begin running sets.
