It has been the pleasure of my life to serve as the President of the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Our government helped make the world safer, delivered real benefits for the Marshallese people and set our country up for the future. Best wishes to President-elect David Kabua.

Minister John Silk at #Petersberg2023: "We are moving beyond discussing whether a fossil fuel phaseout needs to happen, to how, how far, and how fast. 1.5 needs to be the number on everyone’s lips." @SenatorJSilk @RMI_Govt

The conflict in West Papua is a long and bloody one. The blatant Human Rights Abuse and egregious disregard of the liberties of our brothers and sisters in #WestPapua is a sin that we can no longer stay silent about. Speak out for West Papua. We call for Freedom! #MerdekaPapua

Great job, team.
“This is huge progress, but we are also not doing enough to reduce the #LossAndDamage that will affect us in the future. We must phase out fossil fuels and we must do so now.” @kathykijiner on behalf of The Republic of the #MarshallIsland (RMI) at the Closing Plenary of #COP27.

The final essay in our series Before it is lost series. This one from @lagipoiva who writes personally about the terrible question presented by the climate crisis: what to do with the bones of ancestors, as sea levels rise and relocation looms. https://t.co/9BxGrCTWxc

As Pacific nations face the prospect of losing entire islands, the thought of leaving behind the bones of our ancestors is unbearable

We must create a world where human security is paramount. We must achieve inter-generational equity ensuring we leave a better future for our children and our children’s children.

Provide finance for loss and damage - a theme of COP27. Pacific Island countries are already suffering significant loss and damage from the impacts of climate change. We welcome the inclusion of Loss & Damage on the COP agenda and look to the international community.

The stark reality is that the world is running out of time. Vulnerable countries like ours in the Pacific and around the world cannot afford to see more delay and greenwashing. Read our statement on the upcoming #COP27 climate talks 🧵👇

This week, we launch a new series, Before it is lost, of essays from Pacific writers about the things on their islands that are threatened by the climate crisis, the things they are fighting to save. https://t.co/DdiHBSV8pA

The climate crisis is killing us. #COP27 must deliver a down-payment on climate solutions that match the scale of the problem. https://t.co/LhoXfrBZhD

Kudos to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Tsai-ing Wen for defying the odds to stand in solidarity on the side of freedom and democracy. Other countries should not interfere with Taiwan’s friendly interaction with the world.

I extend my deepest condolences to the wife, family and people of Japan on the passing of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. He was a great statesman and a friend of the Marshall Islands. He will be deeply missed by all. https://t.co/z9Nzln8mCP

Australia needs to decide what kind of country it wants to be by 2030. Both sides of politics might be committed to net zero by mid-century. But their plans paint a very different picture for Australia much sooner than that. My @GuardianAus op-ed. #auspol

Both sides have committed to net zero emissions but voters will hopefully reward the one that knows how to get there

The Int’l Human Rights Day was celebrated today in the ROC Taiwan and in the RMI where human rights, democratic institutions & the rule of law are values mutually held in high regards. Nicaragua severing dip ties with Taiwan recently represents another blow to those sacred values

At #COP26 we will see many countries commit to end coal finance and phasing out coal in line with 1.5 degree. With the current negotiations for a new government, Germany has the chance to enhance its reputation as a global climate leader and announce a 2030 coal exit.

We welcome Australia’s committing to 2050 net zero target, however the shorter 2030 target that will limit temperature to 1.5 degree Celsius is crucial for the survival of the Marshall Islands and other atoll nations.

While Australia’s assistance to the RMI is greatly appreciated, RMI would also like to see its support for our concerns about climate change and sea level rise issues which is a grave threat to the survival of our country and its people.
