As a Canadian, I think I can venture an explanation. There are no Canadians. That’s why. You’re just talking to Europeans or other immigrants.

Canadians appear to be the only native English-speakers in the world who aren't manic bullshitters by nature. I'd say it's the cold, but that doesn't excuse large parts of the United States or the United Kingdom.

@SeloSlav the irony is that vegans and carnivores are both wrong in isolation and both right when combined. it’s the barbell approach where middle ground vegetarianism is the worst of both worlds.

This has always been my position on traveling. I despise going to places for no reason or just for “the experience.” It scrambles my brain and makes me seize up. But when I travel to see friends or family passing through Europe for a short time, I end up having the best time.

Travel has lowkey become uncool lol. It feels entry level af. It’s so performative now and says nothing about a person. Sure travel, but not for travel’s sake. Go for a specific event or to see specific friends. But going somewhere is not a status symbol haha. We gotta stop.

Geoffrey Hinton says I'm more optimistic now, not because we'll control AI, but because we might not need to. "don't try to dominate superintelligence; design it to care, like a mother wired to protect her child". Control through attachment, not power. we want AI to be like that

Everyone on the right who missed out on crypto will drift left because they could not close the gap. They will watch Trump and Elon leave them behind while their aristocratic progeny shoot for Mars and deploy robot armies to capture every last labor opportunity, stuffing the rest.

Vegetarianism is the worst diet, hands down. Indians who move to the West and adopt a Western diet will tell you the same. Tons of vegetables combined with all that dairy ramp up absorption of fat-soluble toxins like vitamins A, E, and D, especially when the diet is chronic and.

This chart is easy to explain. People on the lower end of the income brackets either do not know what they are doing (urban poor) or have family who support them (rural poor) or who sometimes even rewarding them when they have a baby, which makes it easier to go through with it.

Young women are often too immature to raise children. unless they have a strong social support network, with aunts, cousins, grandparents, and grandaunts all involved. Sometimes that means 15 or more people helping at once. There is nothing surprising about this. Cities.

Fertility crisis is immeasurably mysterious. Do you not want to witness immortality? Have you failed to imagine any serious future? Do you not imagine yourself creating ghosts? Do you not have desire in your hearts? Why do you shrink from the most natural of tradeoffs?.

A conflation of systemic dependence with individual deference, which is a category error. It's also a form of equivocation: using the broad sense of "trust" (relying on systems built by experts) to argue for the narrower sense (accepting the judgment of a particular expert).

People who think they no longer depend on trusting experts only survive because they're mistaken. Every time you get on a plane you trust experts implicitly about a million questions you're not even aware of.

Why the Taylor Swift engagement is good for nuclear:. Millions of fans will copy her by locking down a man. That's a key step towards increasing the fertility rate. Nuclear plants last a long time and are cheap to run but expensive to build. You need to trust that there will be.

The secret third thing is that you don’t get a choice in which system you live under. Civilization drifts, then course-corrects, and sometimes that means millions of people die. It is all emergent, with no real agency behind any of it. Nothing could have stopped the 20th century,.

I was on the diet myself for almost two years. It felt sustainable for a while, even with butter and eggs, which are relatively (I say this with caution) low in vitamin A. But in the long run, it caused too many problems. Dysbiosis from low bifido levels, heart palpitations, and.
