This is 100% correct, yet still understates the impact. There are efficiencies to be gained at @NIH, even ones that might trim academic funding over time. But doing it this severely at once will cause loss of >500,000 jobs in red and blue states alike.

I'm deeply grateful for the support of so many at @PennMedicine over the 28 years (gulp!) since I matriculated at its medical school. Mentors, mentees, other faculty colleagues, and the incredible professional staff I'm privileged to work with each day have all made this possible.
Congratulations to @ScottHalpernMD (@PAIRCenter/ @PennPulmonary/ @PennMEHP/ @UPennDBEI) on his election to the National Academy of Medicine! Learn more about Dr. Halpern & his research here➡️ #PSOMatNAM @theNAMedicine

Appreciate the offices of @RepDean @RepHoulahan @RepMeuser for hosting discussions of our Healthy Lungs trial, and of course @PCORI for sponsoring the trial and organizing these briefings. Results coming soon! @PAIRCenter @PennMedNews.
A big thank you to @ScottHalpernMD and @JHartMD from @PennMedicine for speaking about their PCORI-funded #smokingcessation study!. Learn more about ongoing study➡️

A true pleasure collaborating with this great team. Such wonderful insights to be gained when physicians and economists team up to explore questions about health-related decision making!.

Really insightful & authoritative comments from @garyweissman (@PennMedicine @PAIRCenter) about ChatGPT in health care in recent @WSJ interview. Also includes smart and measured perspectives from @CohenProf & @james_y_zou.

Agree, nice editorial. But @EWidera, I know you can do better than simplistic (mis)characterizations of trials as either positive or negative. @k8courtright.
A tale of two #palliativecare studies: one positive and one negative. Great editorial by @AshwinKotwalMD @laurenhuntRN @AlexSmithMD and expect back to back podcast on @GeriPalBlog next week with study authors. #HaPC #HPM.

Karma: first time on twitter in almost a year, and I find this. My heart is full. I've been telling mentees precisely this for >10 years, but always with caveat that reviewers may ding them wrongly. Thanks @_MiguelHernan for wisdom to publish it, & @JMichaelMcW for sharing.
Love this - I have never understood grant reviewer demands for hypotheses to be added to clearly stated research questions (or the condescension with which such demands are often made). If a ? is an open empirical one that could go either way, why would you have a hypothesis?.

Beautiful. Must-read for anyone concerned about lingering tolls of the pandemic and future of being a clinician (i.e., should be must-read for everyone). Even if Cameron were a worse doctor (he's not), he'd still be at the very top of the list I'd want caring for my loved ones.
I started writing this more than a year ago. I’m in a much better place now, but it felt important to put these words out there, to share what feels unfortunately common. Thanks @RanaAwdish for making it possible. Hopefully it’s helpful to read.

So grateful for @PCORI support for this essential work. More about our trial here: Also a GREAT example of catalytic effects of institutional research investment - none of this would be possible if not for @PennMedicine investment in @PAIRCenter years ago.
A Penn Medicine research team will lead a large study, supported by @PCORI, to improve the efficacy and reach of inpatient #palliativecare. @ScottHalpernMD @k8courtright @PAIRCenter

Undoubtedly one of the easiest decisions of the year for Penn's provost. So richly deserved - and I take a small amount of pride in teaching you "Do, or do not - there is no try" :).
Got some news today! 🙂. I'm incredibly grateful for my family, mentors, colleagues, mentees, and letter writers without whom this wouldn't be possible. And I'm grateful to be at @Penn. Will celebrate at some point, but for now it's off to a shift!.#MayThe4thBeWithYou

My endorsement of this view goes WAY beyond the signature I was happy to provide. @atscommunity needs to act on this quickly. Race correction of PFTs cannot be justified conceptually, and evidence is mounting, including more coming soon, of just how big a problem this is.
For World Lung Day, we are eager to share our letter to the American Thoracic Society, calling to eliminate race adjustment in Pulmonary Function Tests. With this, we can take steps towards advancing racial equity in health care. Read:

So thrilled that @SteveJoffe has officially been appointed Chair of @Penn Department of Medical Ethics & Health Policy. He's done such an admirable job as interim for past 3 years (no small feat given world events) and will lead @PennMEHP to even greater heights in years to come.
