I need some help to attend the Annual Canadian Sociological Association Conference where I’ve been invited to speak about my dad's accidental opioid overdose during COVID-19 and exploring how grief fuels the harm reduction movement. Please consider donating to support me❤️

Having to tell your story over & over again to different workers who you may never get to see again is traumatic. Being told you only have a few free counselling sessions when you are in crisis is traumatic. When are we going to stop re-traumatizing & de-prioritizing young ppl?

Canadian police killed more people than ever recorded in 2020. And then they set a new record in 2021. And then they set a new record in 2022. Thanks to @trackinjustice and @alexmcclelland for putting together this database.

I'm hosting a GFM for a youth who lost her (unofficial) support dog Winston yesterday. AJ is a talented young equestrian & fierce animal advocate who aspires to enter the veterinary field. Winston could not be saved but please help save AJ from debt. https://t.co/zys733VW5N

@leslie_mcbain workers from agencies that are "friendly" with police are viewed as .... police. and we are seeing more and more of this.

15,523 people in 5 years. Truly massive. Systemic indifference to authentic solutions from all levels of government is 100% deadly. And eternally heartbreaking. #canpoli #onpoli #onhealth #overdose #equity

Here I am, a bundle of past recollections and future dreams, knotted up in a reasonably attractive bundle of flesh. I remember what this flesh has gone through; I dream of what it may go through.

So much is wrong here. We need to rethink community safety with investments in mental healthcare, housing, income supports and more so people have what they need. We also need govt transparency on deaths in custody and supports for the families who are touched by these tragedies.

Deaths in Ontario jails have almost doubled from 2020 to 2021 — 23 to 41 — a shocking spike that follows a steady rise since 2017 despite fewer people in custody, according to a new report from the Tracking (In)Justice project. https://t.co/AGrXgu5IoC

Our firm has acted on inquests into the deaths of persons in custody. These individuals all lived with serious mental illnesses, yet they keep dying when many should be in hospital not a jail cell. Inquest jury recommendations are depressingly similar and pile up without action.

Why have deaths in in Ontario jails nearly doubled in one year? We don’t know. Both things are shocking. More on the report from @alexmcclelland and @SarahSpaghett here: https://t.co/hrFWIMknOR via @torontostar

It is lovely that @kul_akshay_ ended this article with a quote from our late comrade, Tracey Morrison. She used to say to politicians, "I can be a thorn in your side or a flower in your lapel. It's your choice."
