We have put in place this temporary control zone to help prevent the spread of Bluetongue in Wales. This is because we have clear evidence of active midge-borne transmission of BTV-3 infection following further investigations at the affected farm. https://t.co/RmPS9QtqT8
Following the confirmation of Bluetongue serotype 3 (BTV-3) at a premises in Monmouthshire, the Chief Veterinary Officer for Wales has announced a Bluetongue Temporary Control Zone (TCZ) will be put in place around the farm from Wednesday 1 October. https://t.co/qfsHmSrNQU

Livestock keepers - remain vigilant for the signs of #Bluetongue and discuss the merits of vaccination with your vet. Vaccination is our best defence against Bluetongue. If you suspect Bluetongue, report it immediately to @APHAgovUK on 0300 303 8268. https://t.co/FK3E9lc7DM
This morning, Deputy First Minister @Huw4Ogmore and Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Richard Irvine updated Senedd ETRA committee members on Wales' Bluetongue situation. Key messages: Livestock keepers should discuss vaccination with their vets and stay vigilant for disease signs. 📽️

Amazing how many 'proper men' in the @NockDeightonAg livestock mart are VERY reluctant to touch a woman to save her life even if she's only plastic! #BraOfDefibOn Come on boys! We're on the landing outside the Chaplaincy. Come and get your skills up @ResusCouncilUK #restartaheart

You don’t need to see severe clinical signs for Bluetongue to cause devastating impacts. In areas where it affected last yr there have been significant & ongoing effects on fertility. This has severely impacted businesses #DoNotWaitVaccinate

@SaraPedersen3 Really , really important btv produces schmallenberg like fertility and foetal deformity problems ( especially in cattle) farms in Norfolk were hit very hard last year even though they didn’t see a lot of acute disease in adults

80 cases of BTV-3 now (and one BTV-8) note that the UK only reports the initial confirmed cases on a farm not the total number of animals affected - its a lot, lot higher than this and unlike last year these are high livestock density regions https://t.co/DTRAM5pmg2

@SaraPedersen3 It was unfortunately inevitable at this point … it’s a race between the weather and the virus at this point but it’ll be 6 weeks or so before it slows now
