Today is #WorldPatientSafetyDay2023 Proud to have led for UK on the Resolution which gave us the day, under the leadership of @Jeremy_Hunt Listening to patients and acting on their concerns makes sense on every front. Thank you @aidanfowler1000 @PSCommissioner @bttowerlondon!
NHS National Director for Patient Safety, Aidan Fowler, has recorded this message for #WorldPatientSafetyDay on the importance of involving patients in patient safety and why it is a key focus of the NHS #PatientSafetyStrategy.

There are now 46,000 NHS staff off with Covid. This is a direct result of the government choosing *not* to make staff first priority for vaccines. Quite apart from how devastating that decision was for NHS morale (are we, basically, expendable?) it was also staggeringly stupid.

Lord give me the confidence of a man who explains death certification to a palliative care doctor who *checks notes* writes causes of death on certificates every week, often daily. (Needless to say, James is completely wrong here.)

#OAPsychBGS2020 Great start to the conference by @Clive_Ballard. Reminder that no benefit in continuing anti-psychotics in dementia beyond 12 weeks studies (incl care home residents), and of significant potential harm.

Mortality from COVID-19 seems to be decreasing with "second wave" (or continuation of first wave) versus first (e.g .July-August compared to March-April). Data from CDC on deaths from respiratory illness from 2018-2020 with those obvious two peaks of COVID-19 deaths

SARS-CoV-2 will burn itself out if it has no other hosts to transmit to. If people keep their distance from others, use face coverings when necessary, get tested if having any symptoms (however mild) & comply with tracing and isolation, itโs possible to drive it out.
