As a school leader, especially in the window, Monday's can feel a bit stresstul. However, receiving this accolade from the Secretary of State today makes Friday all the better. This is hugely humbling. What a community effort! Bravo team @dustonschool , bravo!

A lot of people who don’t do the job say Heads/leaders should do XYZ. Please walk in our shoes, see the job first hand and then come back to the table. It’s hugely demanding and does take its toll.

This makes 90%+ GLD by the end of EYFS all the more challenging for some settings… because the staff are having to do things that really are the role of parents.

One of the oddest arguments about phone use in schools I’ve heard is but we can teach kids about safe use. You can do that without pupils having a device.

Low level disruption (which is disruption) is kryptonite to a classroom environment. Teachers suffering this are constantly interrupted & learning really suffers.

A big issue with school complaints has been the ever growing trend of treating parents as customers, which they aren’t. Of course valid complaints should be heard but there’s little definition of what this really is.

Having a critical lens is a trend amongst the most successful tech adopters in education. Clarity of purpose, incremental development, and onus on safeguarding and ethics.

Inevitably this week some people will come away from the BETT show having lost their minds over the new shiny tech that’s being released. All I will say is view everything with a critical lens (not negative). Lots of shiny tech has been presented over the years, not all good.

In my experience, it is significantly high. English is arguably more significantly impacted. Very worrying & I really feel for kids. Yet another reason a results app is a bad move - we need to have review of marking conversations with pupils.

What’s needed is a much clearer line of what constitutes a complaint, what schools will listen to/investigate & what they shouldn’t have to listen to.

New: Official guidance for schools has told them to “tune into feelings over facts” when handling parental complaints. Parents have also been given their own version of the guidance, which is backed by govt and unions. https://t.co/DZfdOYirEQ
