Building on experimental evidences, we introduce stochastic trade-offs leading to flexible trade-off curves rather than rigid constraints, enabling evolutionary branching and offering a fresh perspective on how variability in high-dimensional trait space can drive diversification.

Fluctuating interactions boost species coexistence and create a “rare species” pool, supporting biodiversity’s resilience (insurance theory). This work opens the door to new methods in large ecosystem modeling and provides predictions that align closely with real-world data! 3/3
