I only learned about this sad news today. Prof. Mertens was the author of important papers at the intersection of statphys and computation theory. Ten years ago, he also kindly wrote on "Physics" about my work: maybe a little thing for him, it was a lot for a young PhD student. .
Stephan Mertens (pictured, R), Professor of Theoretical Physics @OVGUpresse in Germany and an External Professor at the Santa Fe Institute, passed away on October 9, 2024 after a seven-year battle with multiple myeloma. His passion for science and his kindness will have a lasting
