I’m thinking about stealing a submarine - who’s with me?
Need the following:
14 Marine Engineers
4 Weapon Engineers
8 Sonar operators
8 Tactical systems people
2 Chefs
2 Communicators
1 Navigator
1 XO (Non Perisher - I can teach you)
Must have no scruples
A common training challenge is to have 4 sailors looking at a document and then dive the submarine rapidly - this tests their ability to get back down below before water comes over the casing (deck). In this case all 4 made it back.

When enemy killer dolphins get too close the RN is trained to engage - they wear ear defenders because the noise of the dolphins clicking is so loud it can impact balance

This is still my most loved photo - what a crew we were - I mean awesome - selfless - made a difference in the UK from thousands of miles away - saved life

This was a tragic event that should never have happened - one person is accountable- the Captain - they should be held to account - families deserve that
At the time (early 2000's) this was the oldest submarine in NATO - Portuguese - I was onboard as a Command RIder. It was so well looked after and kicked ass against ships - my lesson was it's the crew, not the platform. that would serve me well in command.

This shot, taken in 2014, shows the extreme angles that the Dutch Walrus class submarines can achieve. The officer's watches are stuck on with velcro....

This shot was taken during a 5g negative dive onboard a Walrus class SSK, with the periscope stuck in the raised position. The British officer desperately tried to pull the periscope down, so that the submarine could invert. No one talked about it for 5 years...
Pre war, all the submarine captains get in a room - Russians, Germans, Brits, US, Norwegians. Everyone is wondering whether the coffee is poisoned......I was first to drink...
2/2. Andrew storms into the Captains cabin (4 ring Captain) ‘Hi you can call me ‘H’ or ‘Your highness’ he says - the Captain looks at him, pauses and then says ‘You can call me Sir’ 😉
This is my Remembrance Day tweet - to all those who lost their lives defending our great nation - thank you. Those of us who've lost shipmates - we'll always struggle with it. If you struggle with what we've seen and done (we all do) - please make sure we look after each other.
Love this shot, taken by my own fair hand post our patrol - my first in command - against a capable enemy - we prevailed - well trained, focused and intelligence savvy
@AdrianEdmondson
Politicians - learn from the submarine service - you don’t lead unless your capable - life is at risk - make sure they want to serve rather than take - our country would be a better place with a real selection and training process
Sovereign’s Parade at the Royal Military Academy complete. The best spot behind the scenes is as the Officer Cadets march up the steps, into Old College and out of view of the stands. The pride and satisfaction is a joy to see.

This photo was taken during a submarine barrel roll, which is a common technique used for evasion and stolen from pilots.

Let me give you this leaders - lead - stop looking after yourself, worrying if you get fired, being worried if the decision you make is wrong. Look after people - get in and f!’hckig lead
So many years ago, we welcomed a young (?) chef onboard - I spent ages teaching him about stopwatches and VHF - he didn't get any of it......not a bad cook though 😉
