@luinalaska No one’s talking about it but Northwest Alaska is being evacuated right now. Entire villages are underwater after Typhoon Halong’s remnants tore through the coast. Homes gone. Families airlifted. It’s one of the biggest rescue operations in Alaska’s history and barely a

We need leadership to steer us through the present turbulent times. @EdwardJDavey is showing some backbone. @Keir_Starmer should bring all political parties together to see how to tackle the call to violence, including Conservatives & @reformparty_uk.

Important work here from FoE et al. The NPPF must be changed to allow decision-makers to do the right thing on climate. At the moment, hands are tied and progress is blocked. @Ed_Miliband @foe_us

Important work being done here: https://t.co/9SUW7AI85A…. The current NPPF is a serious impediment to meaningful progress on climate. It must be made fit for purpose. @Keir_Starmer @Ed_Miliband

CCS is a tricky area full of complexity. But this article gives the basics: it’s a FAKE solution - distracting from the need to stop emissions . That’s why we’ll be at the Labour Party conference supporting @SiOldridge

Engineers have been trying to perfect the technology for years but the maximum effect it could manage is far short of what the planet needs

Genuinely crackers statement from Kemi Badenoch this AM setting out her approach to North Sea oil & gas. As she says, "cheap abundant energy is the foundation of prosperity"... which is why we need to plan to transition away from North Sea O&G and focus on renewables instead🧵

Apparently this needs repeating (again) Dhara Vyas, chief executive of industry body Energy UK tells Carbon Brief that it is “crystal clear what has driven electricity bills up in the UK…it’s the wholesale costs, driven by the price of gas”. https://t.co/DtBtGX0CDt

The UK gov has just published new guidance for environmental impact assessments for oil & gas projects. Despite reports/industry spin, it includes a genuinely robust, credible approach to assessing the emissions caused by burning oil & gas. 🧵 https://t.co/TGaECsARXh

Last year, the Supreme Court ruled that firms must account for emissions created by the burning of fossil fuels.

I’d love to know how the algorithm works. Every time a climate post reaches a certain threshold (about 10-15k views) there’s a pile in of bots, village idiots, and YouTube experts. Happens every time. They are amusing though.
New Met Office study finds extreme temperatures of 40°C or more in the UK are 20x more likely now than in the 1960s. Future heatwaves of a month or more are also possible in today’s climate (1976 was 2 weeks). https://t.co/97GHKOEpMk

New proposals on Biodiversity Net Gain from UK Government will harm whole communities. 🚨 Weaker rules for small and medium developments = big damage to wildlife and our natural world. 📉 Nature can't afford this. Read more 👉 https://t.co/aWQw4JPOzu

Nature is in trouble in @AngelaRayner’s constituency, with records of some birds down by nearly 75% in recent years & local protected nature sites in poor condition🥀 MPs must fix the Planning Bill to stop this getting even worse 👇 https://t.co/OHwhw1UXkz

Welcome to Round 1 of Nature or No Nature! @Keir_Starmer, you were elected on a promise to meet legally binding nature targets. Now, funding for nature, and laws protecting species and habitats, are at risk. So, for a chance to win back public trust, your first question:

For decades the fossil fuel industry peddled climate denial, now when it's obvious they were wrong (and they knew it), we face a new lie - economic denial.

#FreeFree4 - judges and planning inspectors shld be much better informed on #climate science and the implications of high carbon infrastructure.

1/2 In Lincolnshire a third of the population, and over 200,000 homes are at risk of flooding. Much of the county is close to sea level. One of Reform’s first actions is to abolish the Flood scrutiny Committee and amalgamate it with Environment.

The Planning and Infrastructure Bill is bad for people and nature. It enables luxury homes no one can afford while weakening protections for wildlife. I've backed key amendments to fix this - to improve protections for nature and ensure we get the affordable housing that we need.
