Restorative practices are an alternative to punitive justice. It may take more time, but better in the long run. When applying restorative practices, pupils will be more receptive within their window of tolerance. They can better process & reflect their actions. 🧠🌱

A year's worth of picturebook assembly suggestions that have a focus on diversity, equality, inclusion and empathy. Hopefully it's of use, even to just dip into occasionally. The link is here: https://t.co/JBuWKFD2sh

Behaviour charts/cards overlook a young persons development. unidentified conditions or a lack of impulse control. The young people get labelled as "naughty" or "bad" despite all our advances in neuroscience. They only serve short-term compliance & lose effectiveness quickly🧠🌱

I don't care what anyone says, we must prioritise learning through play for year 1 & 2 children. Some parents have shared they move from play in reception, to straight behind a desk in year 1. The children are crying and going home saying they hate school. This isn't right.

‘Our OFSTED inspector put her hand up and asked us to ‘stop talking, I’ve heard enough. We felt like criminals being interrogated.’ This is one of the most shocking sets of data I’ve ever seen. @YorksBylines @BylineTimes

It's Time To Change How Success Is Measured - Today's education systems are intended and regarded as preparation for employment rather than the historical model of providing education for education's sake. https://t.co/qk35wqJyry

Harry was 6. A boy full of smiles. A passion for stories and singing. I was his teacher. Newly qualified & somewhat overwhelmed. Harry was #autistic. He played alone With moments of violence & aggression I'd been warned... At the start of term, I was asked into a meeting...

Can we take a moment to reflect on the fact that these are toddlers who have been alive between 24 and 36 months. There’s no need for “history” or “phonics” or “handwriting” (I recently saw handwriting worksheets in a 2 year old room) what these children need is to explore and

Wanted to add! If you’re a primary teacher who is also a parent, please don’t feel guilty!! My mum still gave me much time and love and I’m sure you do the same for your kids. You can’t be everything to everyone. Thank you for all that you do 💙 (5)

Many years ago a wise head told Pete to write school reports imagining that parents were opening them at the end of a bad day, to be honest but kind, as you’re talking about their most precious thing. I had a great day but it’s been a tough year. This meant so much tonight.

Saw this from the lovely @ViviennePorritt and it resonated enormously. We should all actively seek opportunities to boost others, share experiences to learn from, mentor, give a leg up, shine a light on people and above all, celebrate others’ success with unbridled joy. 💖
