This man is a low-key Seattle legend. Just doing his job every day, telling us what's going down in the greater Capitol Hill neighborhood. And making great photos in his spare time. Legend.

This is *rough*, but the pandemic shock of 2020 gas us a glimpse into the shape of the crude oil supply curve. The closing of the Straight of Hormuz gave us a glimpse into the shape of the demand curve. If we put those together and draw some lines Econ 101 style...

On Monday, I'm talking with a NY activist about the latest climate fight in NY, namely, Gov. Kathy Hochul proposing to roll back the state's historic climate law. She says it will cost too much. Advocates say it saves people money. Big fight. Got questions?

This @AriSchulman essay is so sharp in its diagnosis of where the current admin’s approach to science fails, and also on the topic of what conditions make ambitious science possible, at all

Jay Bhattacharya and his fellow usurpers pulled off a revolutionary victory. They held a very public trial of science for its sins. They won a conviction. That verdict was just. Now they are in denial of just how far their revolution succeeded.

I spent most of my career before becoming a host as a conflict reporter. I’m seeing many of the familiar misunderstandings and confusion emerge that have some unique 2026 qualities. 1. Propaganda is rife. All governments engage in it. That’s why painstaking original reporting

lots of middle-aged men who think big pants make you look old bc that's what old people wore, so they switched to slim fit pants in the early 2000s, not realizing that slim fit pants makes you look old in 2026 bc they are now the out-of-touch old person in 20 yr old fashion

Getting the data centers to support a very large fund that is focused on building a grid for growth and ensuring ratepayers don’t get screwed feels both highly desirable and politically plausible to me.

This is essential listening for wonks (and advocates) working on oil and gas in a low-carbon / net zero transition. @TofMcGlade is incredibly thoughtful; so glad he is working on this issue at IEA.

In Ep. 166, @TofMcGlade of @IEA joins us to explain their #energytransition scenarios and how they updated their warming projections based on pledges made at COP26. We also went deep on stranded asset estimation and field decline rates! https://t.co/lGklYuuqik

Unpopular (?) opinion: Just because IEA and others find there is no "need" for new oil and gas fields in a 1.5C-aligned scenario does not mean there is absolutely no "room" for such. Nor, as Christophe describes in this show, does stopping such necessarily help bring about 1.5C.

Corollary: a complicated, multi-part problem like housing affordability is going to require many important (critical, even) fixes, even if any given one of those fixes may be thought of as "small bore" to *somebody*.

Abundance/YIMBY critics keep accusing us of being in the pocket of developers or big tech or a front to build data centers. This critique rests on the belief that no one could sincerely think that regulatory reform is important enough to devote a political project to. And so,
